New Course In O'Neill Schools TO the Young People of Holt County: The O’Neill High School has been designated as one of the High Schools of the * State to maintain a class in Normal Training. The object is to enable young persons wbo wish to teach to prepare to do so by entering a school near home, where they will receive the best of instruction and where every opportunity is offered by which they may prepare for the work of teaching, as the law requires. The Lazv. The law relative to Normal Train ing in the nigh Schools of Nebraska is very brief, yet comprehensive. It was enacted by the Legislature of 1905. It reads: “On and after September 1, 1907, no person shall Ire granted a first grade eounty certificate who has not had at least twelve weeks normal training in a college, university or normal school of approved standing in this or in another state, or in a state junior normal school of Nebraska, or in a high, school of Nebraska approved by '.he state superintendent of public in struction as bring equipped to give such normal training. This work will include subject natter, underlying principles and nethods of teaching and will enable he student to approach the subject rom the standpoint of teacher as well ,s that of student. It will be given by veil trained, experienced teachers. A study of American history for at east four and one half months will be iven. In addition to the above Normal [’raining course, a student may carry uch High School work as may be de ired. We will not enroll more than wenty in the Normal Training Class. Professional Training. 1. A course (30 lessons) in the theory and Practice of teaching, in luding a brief outline of the funda nental principles of elementary edu ction. 2 A course (30 lessons) in method if instruction and district school irganization and management. 3 At least Lweuty-six observation essons under grade teachers and three o five practice lessons with high chool classes in which the pupil eacher teaches all or part of the period if a class of which he is a regular nember, or in lieu of the latter, .ctual teaching in the grades under lirect supervision. All observation ,rul practice lessons should be care iiIly planned, reviewed and discussed. Piie teachers giving the lessons will neet subsequently with the observers n order to aid in the study of the aim .nd various facts of the lesson.
