GRASSHOPPER HISTORY (Continued from first page.) great consternation of some of the settlers who dreaded them and prog nosticated the country’s approaching doom, but that year we got a late and severe frost and in a week afterwards there was not a grasshopper to be found in the settlement. This grasshopper scare had a very depressing effect on the settlers so much so that many of the more timid ones picked up their few “traps” and left for good. The settlement was grasshoppered three different times and in as many years, but the one of 1876 was the worst of all.
