She went for some meat, but the shop being closed, she went to the hotel after Mr. Sarchet, who had just gone down cellar leaving the trap door open. She didn’t notice it and stepped off into the cellar bruis ing her badly. She lay unconcious un til midnight but was resting easy this morning.—The Reporter. STUART Mr. Campbell and family are here from Creighton and have moved unto the Compton farm on the Rock county line. Mr. Campbell says that more are coming from Knox county to Holt. The farmersof Cleveland are putting in an independanttelephone line which will be connected with the exchauge at Stuart, Atkinson and Newport. Twenty-two phones are being put in. The line will start from Dustin and come to the old John Robertson place. A number of Stuart’s business men are helping the enterprise. The directors are Chas. Morse, A. Chenoworth and S. L. Lofquist.—The Ledger. INMAN Mrs. Hancock and daughters have returned from O’Neill. Isaac Moss of Amelia was the guest of VanAvery’s yesterday. The sound of a loud explosion last Sunday afternoon seems to have been the result of some miscreant blowing up tlie lake north of town and killing the fish therein. We hear that Bob Baker will short ly be transferred as station agent from Stafford to Emmet. Selah recieved the sad news Wednesday, that her brother was dead. He was badly injured near his home in Illinois several years ago by a bank of dirt falling on him and was an invalid up until the time of his death. Another fine draft stallion died last Monday morning in Ewing, owned by E. McConnell. Aside from its being a personal loss, the community is a loser as well. This makes the second draft stallion that has died this fall in this section of the state.—The Advo cate. ATKINSON This judicial district is entirely too large and would prove more satisfac tory to all parties concerned if it was divided into two districts. We do not think any taxpayer could raise objec tion if the legislators of the present district would frame a bill of this kind and have it passed by the coming le gislature. Col. Isaac Millspaugh of Francis township, called at this office Tuesday and informed us that the railroad ex citement is running high in his sec tion of the country. A meeting was held at the O. P. Hanks’ school house and during its progress some school children set fire to the wild grasses and caused the whole force to turn out and fight its progress, when their la bors were finished it was late and the meeting was postponed to some future date.—The Graphic. On Monday last A. C Hubbard gave over the hotel business here to Oney and Ed Anderson, who will run the hotel and the livery and feed business here. Mr. Hubbard and his family moved back to Ewing where he has an office position with a Chicago firm. The Chambers lodge I. O. O.
