LOCAL MATTERS. • I hate the man who always grunts and kicks and groans around, and moistens with his briny tears a mile or t wo of ground,” sings Walt Mason. 'Tic grunts when rain is falling fast, he grants when days are dry, at every mark along the road you hear his dole ful cry. Ife is the damper on our hopes, the nourishment of fears; we ought, to take him out by night and cut off t»oth tils ears; tie is the modern stumbling block, the hoodoo of the to vn: we ought to build a roaring fire and hake, him nice and brown; tie is the grease upon the track, the brake upon the wheels: we ought to take film to the woods arid hang film by the heels: he is the mud that soils the hruok, the cat that, spills the cream; we ought to take his head some day and soak it. in the stream; he is the blight, the pest of pests, the frost that nips and chills: we ought to try to kill him off with Bllljaw’s Patent Pills.” At a meeting of the city council Monday evening It.
