Thfe Atlas Elevator Co. have com
pleted their new elevator at Page, and
the building is now ready for business.
It has a capacity of 25,000 bushels of
grain, which will be elevated by a
5-horse power gasoline engine. The
structure presents an imposing appear
ance and will do much to convince
the outside world that small grain is
a successful crop in this part of Holt
county. The cost of this new
improvement to our town was
about $5000, and much credit is due
to the resident manager, G. L.
Roberge, for this addition to the busi
ness interests of Page.—The Reporter.
INMAN
Mr. Frantz of Indiana, th^ father
of Mrs. John Hancock is here on a
visit. He is one of the G. A. R. boys
and says he is going to spend one
decoration day in Nebraska.
Rev. N. S. Lowrie, who for years
was pastor of the Presbyterian church
in Inman, now living in Lincoln will
preach here May 29 at 3 p.
Elder Garnet met with a severe
injury at Spencer the other day by
one of his horses pawing him, but the
elder is getting along very well.
Sam Davis, who left here about a
year ago and went to Alberta, Canada,
was in Inman last week shaking
hands. Sam looks well.—Correspond
ence in Page Reporter.
ATKINSON.
U. G. Beck arrived from Oskaloosa,
Iowa, Wednesday night, and is shak
ing hands with friends and looking
after business interests. Among
other good things which have come
to Mr. Mack recently is the republican
nominsMon for county recorder in his
home county.
Tonight (Friday) there will be or
ganized in Atkinson a local lodge of
Sons of Herman, a strictly German,
social, educational and fraternal order.
A. F. Kiehl, the organizer from head
quarters, has been here for over a
week, and informs the Graphic that
the lodge will start with twenty-five
or thirty charter members. It is
largely through the efforts of F. F.
Mende, editor of “Der Bote” that At
kinson secured this organization. It
will be organized as Lodge No. 42, O.
D. H. S.—The Graphic.
EWING.
On Monday night, May 16th, some
miserable spaciman of humanity broke
into E. J. Spittlers’s butcher shop by
prying open the front door, breaking
the lock and door, and carried away
smoked meats to the value of $40.
The act was committed by a stranger
or a thing in human form. Any man
acquainted with Mr. Spittler that
was hungry and needed meat to eat,
and no money to buy, could have got
all they needed by just stating the
facts to him, as he never refuses to
give to those who are in need. It
seems that this community is afflicted
with some miserable cuss who is try
ing to reach the end of a rope, or
has concluded to risk his carcass for a
target. The sooner we are freed from
this unhealthy encumbrance, the
better it will be for those who are
trying to earn a living in a legitimate
manner.—The Advocate.
STUART.
Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Collins formerly
of Valentine have bought the Pacific
House and opened up business last
week.
1 Miss Dykeman has returned to her
home in O’Neill after a successful
year’s work as teacher in the Jillson
district.
Earl McGrew is in Redlands, Cali
fornia, having sold out his interests
here and gone west searching for a
windless climate where the roses
bloom all the year and oranges cost
five cents per dozen.
Word has just reached town that
Capt. D. C. Blondin was found dead
in his alfalfa field this morning. He
got up at 5 o’clock and had gone out to
sow alfalfa before the wind rose. Jim
Stuart who is staying there, got break
fast and waited for him and about 7
o’clock went out to look for him. He
found him lying with a pail in hand,
dead. The coroner has been sent for
and will drive direct from O’Neill to
Capt. Blondin’s ranch 8 miles north
east of Stuart. He was a member of
the G. A. R. and of the A. O. U. W.
lodge and carried $2,000 insurance in
that order.—The Ledger.
Cured His Mother of Rheumatism.
“My mother has been a sufferer for
many years with rheumatism,” says
W. H. Howard, of Husband, Pa. “At
times she was unable to move at all,
while at all times \ '.Iking was pain
ful. I presented her with a bottle of
Chamberlain’s Pain Balm and after a
few applications she decided it was
the most wonderful pain reliver she
had ever tried, in fact, she is never
without it now and is at all times able
to walk. An occasional application
of Pain Balm keeps away the pain
that she was formerly troubled with. ”

A school man not over a thousand
miles away found a lad in the geogra
phy class who was deeply interested
in learning the points of the compass.
The teacher said: “You have in front
of you, the the north; on your right,
the east; and on your left, the west.
What have you behind you?” After
a few moments’ reflection, Allen ex
claimed: “A patch on my pants,”
and to make the information more
emphatic, Allen continued in a shame
faced manner: “I knew you’d see it.
I told ma you would.”
