Mrs. U. S. Michael and children
drove over to Inman Monday morning

Friday from an extended visit In In
diana. She reports a good time and
among the many good things she
visited with her aged grandfather who
is upwards of one hundred years old.—

ATKINSON.
Mary Mullen has resigned her posi
tion as clerk in Mann & Ryan’s store
and the vacancy was filled last Satur
day by Ava Williams.
W. A. Wheeler received the sad
news of his wife’s death, at the Lin
coln hospital, Friday. He left for
Lincoln on the early morning train
Saturday.
Kev. Maclean nuea me puipit at
the M. E. church last Sunday at morn
ing and evening services. These were
his last sermons and were listened to
by a large and appreciative audience.
Rev. and Mrs. MacLean left on Mon
day for their new field of work and a
host of friends wish them success and
prosperity for the future.
Monday George E. Collins of the
State bank purchased the fine ranch
belonging to Tull and Ballon contain
ing section of as good land as there is
in Holt county 12 miles southwest of
Atkinson. Mr. Collins paid the neat
sum of eight thousand dollars for the
place, and will stock it up this spring.
The place was well improved, having
four flowing wells and two sets of good
buildings, fences and trees of all des
criptions. Good luck to him in his
new venture.—The Graphic.

Ad Rice has sold out his dray in
terests and will soon remove his family
to Cour d ’Alene, Idaho.
There are a few youthful Alexanders
in Stuart who amuse themselves by
performing petty acts of thievery
after night. When windows are brok
en open, or safes hammered in, and
personal properety and money stolen,
it is time to call on the majesty of
the law.
The end of the petty reformer is in
variably found in a bag of boodle. Sam
Eves, the head light of Holt county’s
“reform forces” has gone to Arizona
with his pockets full of reform curren
cy. He made enough out of his
blatant cries to buy out a copper mine
in the Rocky mountains.
George L. Bastedo, a pioneer resi
dent of this county, was in Stuart re
cently on business connected with the
Cripple Creek mining interests of
Colorado. Mr. Bastedo was one of
Holt county’s early supervisors and
, was identified with the interests of
the west end of the county.lt is inter
esting to hear him tell of the many
changes which have taken place in
the last fifteen years.—The Ledger.

connections for perfect service, at $50
>r per month is in our opinion not
y enough, and we hope the time is not
far distant when a better salary will
£ be paid, for services that to be in pro
3. portion to the amount of labor and
£ responsibility few men can depend
upon for the support of a family.—
