The bond of Simon Banish road overseer district No 2" was approved. The following resolution was read. Mr Chairman—1 move that the pub lic road prayed for by C. II. Finney and others commencing at the north east corner of section 27, towhship 29, range 9 running thence west one mile be allowed the same having been viewed and advertized according to law and no claim for damages having been filed and that the county sur veyor be instructed to plat same on road plat book and the clerk to make all necessary records on the county re cords and road record book. All members except Moler. Minutes of yesterday session were read and approved. On motion Dr. Clias. S. Grabin was appointed as a member of the county board of health in place of Dr. H. C. Skelton removed from the county. On motion the Interstate Telephone Co. be assessed for 36 miles of line at tiie rate of ten dollars per mile and the clerk was intruded to divide the same into the various precincts and school districts through which the said line runs. On motion the Ewing and Deloit Telephone Co. be assessed at three dollars per mile and the clerk was instructed to divide the same into tiie various precincts and school districts through which the said line runs. On motion the treasurer was author ized to deliver to John O’Connell as sesor of Sheridan township warrant No. 131 on general fund for 1902, the same having been held for taxes which were aftetward found to be due from another party of same name. M. F. Iloyt, appeared before the board in accordance with notice issued by the board at their J uly meeting and listed for assessment 80 head of cattle owned by himself and 50 head of cat tle owned by O. N. Perley, all in Francis township, school district No. 206. On motion tiie above cattle were placed on the assessment in said town ship for 1902. On motion tiie Carabine Commission company were assessed for 600 head of cattle in Scott township in school dis trict No. 48, $14 per head the same not having been assessed by tiie local assessor. Mr. J. Galligan appeared before the board and corrected the assessment of cattle given by him to tiie local as sessor of Sheridan township. On motion the board adjourned un til One o’clock p. m. One o’clock p. m. Board called to order. All members present except Moler. II. O. Jackson appeared before the board in accordance with notice issu ed by the board at their July meeting in regard to the assessment of cattle to Jackson Bros. On motion the assessment of one hundred head of cattle that were as sessed to II. O. Jackson by the assessor of Shields township be stricken from the assessors books, the same being an erroneous assessment. On motion two hundred head of cat tle be assessed to H. O. Jackson in Shields precinct at $4 per head. ■» JACOB PFVND. The cashiers of the various hanks in thejeounty appeared before the board in regard to the assessing of the sur plus funds and undivided profits and the correction of errors. On motion the contract for building the bridge across the Elkhorn river south of O’Neill be awarded to the Canton Bridge Co., for $757 their bid being the lowest. On motion chairman Marsh was directed to supervise the building of the bridge above named upon the part of Ilolt county, and to dispose of the material in the old bridge. The following resolution was read. Mr. Chairman—I move that the County Attorney be instructed to commence foreclosure proceedings for taxes against lots 4, 5, 6, 7, in block one and all of blocks 2,3, and 4. To the Honorable board of supervi sors of Holt county now comes H. II. Whiffen of the firm of J. W. Wliiffen 6 Son and state that said firm did, on or about the 4 day of November 1901 purchase at public sale for taxes of the then county treasurer of Holt county, a tract of land described as follows: The S W 1 of section 2, township 30, range 12, in Holt county, for which said firm paid the sum of $13.80 and the then county treasurer issued them a certificate of purchase No. 1651 on said tract aboved describ ed and the county treasurer having made a statement to your petitioner that same was an erroneous sale, he respectfully requests of your board that they refund the purchase price of the certificate together with in terest according to statute in such cases made and provided for which your petitioner will ever pray. Gentlemen:—I respectfully ask that your honorable Board instruct the county attorney to commence foreclos ure proceedings for delinquent taxes on lots 20 and 21, in block 37, Riggs addition to O’Neill, Neb., and I here by agree that if said action is com menced and maintained by said Holt county, Neb., that I will, on the offer ing of said above described property for sale, offer and bid therefor the sum of one hundred dollars. A statement of taxes amounting to $195.90 is here to attached Signed John A. Harmon.
