Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Mc Robert are visiting in Boyd Co. Adam Martin is making prep erution to build a new barn. Mr. and Mrs. Edson Sargent visited at Jocob Beaver’s Friday. Della Bedford closed a very successful term of school in the Eden Valley district last Friday. Andrew and Charles .Larson marketed two loads of corn in O’Neill Saturday. Mrs Reynolds of Dorsey visited with her sister Mrs. Frank Oberle last week. Seeding in this vicinity took a back-set this week on account of the iuclemency of the weather. A surprise party was given at the home of Justus Spiudlors last week. A good time is reported. The Womau’s Mission club will give a grumophone entertainment in the Presbyterian church at Pleas ant Valley April 1, at 7:30. Admis sion 25 cents. From the writings of the Black bird correspondent one would nat urally draw the conclusion that there is a good opening in that neighbourhood for a wide awake business man who has a cano mill. ' The O'Hooligau Twins. Highest*Salaried Railroad President. Charles M. Hayes, the new presi dent of the Southern Pacific, held a clerical position twelve years ago. To day he receives $55,000 a year, the largest salary paid to any president of a railroad in the world. He won it principally through his tact in dealing with subordinates and his wisdom in bestowing praise for any work well done. Negro as Indian Tribe Chief. The Creek nation numbers 16,000, but of these no less than 6,000 are ne groes. They represent the mest P-o gressive part of the tribe and are said practically to control its policy. These former slaves are so influential th t a man of negro descent was chosen as one of the head chiefs of .me trioe. The Choctaws, however, punish wit y death a marriage with a negro. Grandnephew of President Madison. Mr. E. C. Madison, who represents Newport News, Warwick county, Wil liamsburg, New Kent, Chailes City, James City and New York in the Vir ginia house of delegates, is a grand nephew of President James Mil son. He served his political app: ship with Tammany Hall in Ne k. Welsh Settlement In Russia. A Welshman named John Hughes has established a colony of his coun trymen in southern Russia, where they have begun the manufacture of iron and steel on a large scale.
