Act 2, scene 1.—Circumstantial evidence against the farm er. Separation from the girl he loves. Brierly revenged. (Three years supposed to elapse between second and third acts.) Act 3, scene 1.—The home of Tim Whipall. Widow Whipall advertises for a husband. Scene 2.—Mary Brierly’s sorrow for her lover. Brierly pleads for her hand. She consents. Brierly confronted by Nibs. They quarrel. A compromise is effected. Scene 3.—Widow Whipall gets an answer to her advertisement. Tim confronts his mother. Scene 4.—Fairfield’s return. Is met by Tim and Dollie. He accompanies them. Act 4, scene 1.—Fairfield attempts to see Mary. Brierly and Nibs quarrel. The villainly of Brierly. Act 5, scene 1.—Brierly prepares. Scene 2. The wedding day. Ceremony stopped. Mr. Chairman: We, your committee \>n printing, make the following recom mendation: The Holt County Independent shall be made the official paper and all legal notices shall be published at one-half legal rates. The publishing of the proceedings of the county board be let to the Holt County Independent, Atkinson Plain Dealer and Ewing Advocate, each to re ceive 11 1-9 cents per square. The publishing of the delinquent tax list be let as follows: The Holt County Independent shall publish the list of the townships of Grattan, Shields, Emmet, Willowdale, Sieel Creek, Scott, Paddock, Saratoga, Rock Falls, Pleasantview, Shamrock, Chambers and Conley, city of O’Neill and the villages of Emmet and Chambers. The Ewing Advocate shall publish the list of the townships of Iowa, Verdigris, Ewing, Deloit, Lake, McClure and In man, and the yillages of Ewing, Inman, Page and Emporia. The Atkinson Plain Dealer the list of the townships of Atkinson, Dustin Cleveland, Sand Creek, Stuart, Green Valley, Sheridan, Francis, Fairview, Wyoming and Swan, and the villages of Atkinson, Stuart and Amelia. B. W. Postlewait, W. B. Cooper. On motion the report of the com mittee wss adopted. Mr. Chairman: 1 move that the Chair man of the board be instructed to enter into contracts with the several publish ers for the printing of the deliquent tax list at one half legal rates, that is 10 conts per description of farm lands and 5 cents per description of town lots. B. W. Postlewait, W. W. Bethea. Motion carried. Moyed and seconded that the board reconsider the adoption of report of committee on printing. Carried. Moved and seconded that the report of printing committee be amended to read: “The publishing of the proceed ings of the county board be let to the Atkinson Plain Dealer, Ewing Advooate and Frontier.” Motion to amend carried. On motion the report of committee as amended was adopted. Moyed and seconded that the county clerk be instructed to solicit bids for the printing of the offloial and sample bal lots for the ensuing year and to let the contraot to the lowest responsible bidder. ■ Motion carried. On motion the official bonds of Robert Gallagher as a member of the Soldiers Relief committee, and W. F. Purdy as Justice of Peace for Swan township were approved. Moved and seconded that the clerk be instructed to correct the error in the assessment of the personal property of Andrew Robertson (Cleveland Twp.) for the year 1899. Motion carried. On motion the county attorney la allowed to employ one stenographer for the next six months, at a salary not to exceed $5Q per month. Motion to establish Road No. 114 was laid over until next meeting. Lee Baker was granted a druggists permit to sell liquors for medical and mechanical purposes only, in the town of Chambers. On motion the following claims were allowed and warrants ordered drawn against advertising fund. Lee Henry, publishing delinquent tax list, $230.20. Independent Publishing Co., claim of $353 allowed in sum $324.90. Motion to reconsider the adoption of the report of committee on the printing for the second time. Carried. Moved and seconded that the report be amended and the Atkinson Plain Dealer be made the official paper. Aye and no vote demanded. Those voting aye: Bethea, Postlewait, Simar, Keefe and Fritchioff.
