TEACHERS' MEETING.
The Holt county teachers’ association
met in O'Neill last Saturday Thirty
, two teachers attended, also a number of
the patrons. Lieutenant Governor
Harris was present and gave some very
valuable suggestions to both teachers
and parents.
The first number on the program was
a paper on “Drawing,” by B. B. Smith.
Mr. Smith was absent but the subject
was ably discussed by G. W. Whiteborn,
of Boyd county. The next was a paper,
’‘fhe Work in Civil Government,” by
G. W. Worrel. Mr. Worrel was absent,
but the work was discussed by Wm.
borrow, R. P. Cross, T. V. Golden,
Mr. Lowrie, £. H. Whelan and others.
Mr. Cross favored sham trials in the
work, Mr. Golden thought them detri
mental as the pupils would then have a
desire to get into court, Mr. Lowrie
thought that too much time was given
to learning the names of transient office
holders and not enough time devoted to
learning the principles of government.
Mr. Whelan contended that the training
‘ the pupils received in seeking such
information was beneficial.
Miss Cora A. Thompson read an
excellent paper on “Ideal Relations of a
Community to Its Public Schools.” The
paper was discussed by Minnie E. Daly.
Each thought the community at fault in
thinking the public schools can educate
their girls and boys without any help
I from tbs*. The school is only one of
the many educational forces. The
newspaper, the library, the social and
- intellectual clubs, the church, the home,
the loafing place, each exerts au,influ
ence not to be underestimated. Mr.
8elah believes the teachers are partly to
blame for the lack of sympathy between
the community and public schools, and
urged them to visit the homes of the
patrons without formal invitations.
This was followed Uy a paper,
“Modern Psychology and Its Contribu
tions to Education,” by E. H. Whelan,
which was discussed by Mrs. Addle
Clark. “Barriers to Educational Ad
vancement” was read by R. P. Cross.
Lieutenant-Governor Harris gave an
able lecture in the evening on “Educa
tional Forces.” Minnik E. Daly,
Secretary.

HOW TO FIHO OUT.
Fill a bottle or common glass with
urine and let it stand twenty-four hours;
a sediment or settling indicates an un

When urine stains linen it is positive
evidence of kidney trouble. Too fre
quent desire to urinate, or pain in th«
back, is also convincing proof that the
kidneys and bladder are out of order.
