son that is not already known? A
man that has lived in Holt county
for twenty years and bears an un
sullied reputation, both in business
and private life, does not need any
further recommendation. He will
win in a walk. Vote for him.

for B. K Bowden, a competent civil

principle, were forced to support a
democratic candidate for president
last fall, and this fall the democrats
are trying to force them to support
a democrat for supreme judge. It

were devouring the populist party.

will make his decisions in any and
all cases that may come before him,
in strict accord with the evidence
adduced, and the law governing, and

other outside influences—even if he

county that has transacted business
at the court-house that does not
know O. M. Collins ? And to know
him is to know a man of unsullied
reputation, an efficient clerk, as his
record for the past four years has
plainly shown, and a courteous and
obliging gentleman, who will make
it his endeavor to comply with the
wishes of the public in every way
that lays in his power, in his
capacity as county clerk of Holt
county. Vote for O. M. Collins.
It puzzles us to know why the
pops raise such a howl about high
priced breadstuff, when they were
arguing last fall that free silver
would benefit the farmer by en
hancing the value of his products.
They knew that high priced wheat
for the farmer ment high priced
bread for the miner, bnt were very
careful not to mention it And now
that wheat has gone up they “cuss”
the republicans for raising the price
of the minors’ food.—Hartington

A populist from the country, who
attended the Bryan rally here last
week, stood in the crowd listening
to the “boy orator.” He was quite
enthusiastic when the speaking
began, but as the orator progressed
his ardor was seen to dwndle con
siderably. Finally when Mr. Bryan
reached that point where he tried to
lead his hearers to believe that
dollar wheat is a calamity, this par
ticular populist threw up both hands
and left the place, saying that he
had been raising SO cent wheat for
the past four years, and he had no
use for anyone who tried to make
people believe that dollar wheat was
a calamity.—Ghadron Journal.
Tbk republicans of Holt county
have nominated John M. Alderson
for county treasurer and they have
made no mistake. Mr. Alderson is
brother of “our Tom” and formerly
lived in this county on the place
now owned by T. H. Webster, where
he resided for seven years. Mr.
Alderson is thoroughly competent
to discharge the duties of the office
to which he aspires, and he is above
everything else an honest, upright
man. the people of Holt county
want for their treasurer a man who
is in every way worthy of their con
fidence and support, they will see to
it that John M. Alderson is triumph

By all means keep the people filled

reform—as advocated by the popu
list platform, not as practiced by the
party leaders and officials—then
they won’t notice the workings of
the court-house “ring.”

been nominated by acclamation in
a republican convention held on the
23rd for oounty clerk in Holt county.

i agent at our depot, which avocation
■ he followed for a number of years
after moving to the state of Nebras

i in the clerical profession he was
very successful in winning many influ
i ential friends all over Holt oounty,
who in turn sought to give him
a more lucrative position, and assist
ed to a great extent to his appoint
ment to the deputy clerkship of th«
district court, which position he is
very satisfactorily filling at the
present time. 01 has always been
a staunch republican and a hard
untiring worker in the interest of
the party and it is but right that he
be recognized—so say his many
friends here and there with the ut
most hope that he may be elected,
notwithstanding the fact that he will
have a large populist majority to

As it was in the populist con*
vention in Holt county, so it is all
over the state. The following,
taken from the report of the Ante
lope county pop convention in the
Neligh Leader, describes the pro
eeedings in the populist conventions
all over the state: “Probably no
convention of any party was ever
held in Antelope connty that has
brought out such a vigorous protest
from its party as the one called for
the purpose of nominating a popu
list ticket last Saturday. Apparent
ly it was only necessary to mention
the fact that a candidate had always
been a consistent populist to ensure
his defeat. By a combination of
office seekers with a few populist
statesmen with a standing grievance.

In each instance there were candi
dates of acknowledged worth and
unquestioned populist principles
opposed to them, but the new con
verts to populism in each case
proved that the office was seeking
them with a force that was equally
satisfactary as agreeable.
