The poet office fa being moved into the

has lately been occupied as a billiard hall.
Arthur Coykendall csme up from
O’Neill last Saturday and stayed over
Sunday. Of course it was purely a
business trip.
Jess Brook caught a fine bass Tuesday.
We might say It weighed 7 pounds but
for* fear of injuring our reputation for
truthfullness we will put It at 81 pounds.
James Johnson, son of Col. B. W.
Johnson, arrived Tuesday evening from
San Francisco for a visit with his rela
tives here whom he had not seen for ten
years. ' -__
Miss Florence McDonald returned
'• home from Fremont last Saturday to
remain a short time. She was accom
panied by Miss Nellie Flood, of Chicago,
who will visit with her during her stay.
The boxing matches Saturday evening
were interesting and well attended.
There were three matches and all of
them were warm. The “go” of the
evening was between Jeston Boehme
' and George Purnell, the decision of the
referee going to Boehme after five
rounds. _
Attorney General Smythe was in. At
kinson Tuesday looking for evidence
that would assist him in establishing his
claim that Bartley’s deposit in the Ex
change bank was state money. The
notion of the state in endeavoring to ap
propriate this deposit and get it paid
ahead of the regular depositors is very
unpopular here.
The hoise races came oil as scheduled
last Saturday and a good crowd was in
attendance. The trotting race was won
by £jobn McNlchols’ horse, he coming
out first in both heats. In the horse race
Keelers biacl^ got first with Neeley’s
horse second. Hitchcocks pony won
first in the pony race aad Alworths pony
second. The novelty race was won by
a horse belonging to Bert Freed.
Miss Emma Reisinger and Mr. Austin
Butler were married at the home of the
bride’s parents, Wednesday evening.

Mr. Butler, who is an employee of the
Atkinson Roller Mills, has lived here for
a number of years and is well and favor
ably known. The bride is a daughter of
Wm. Reisinger, a well-to-do farmer
living east of Atkinson, and although
she has been here only about three years
she has made many warm friends all
of whom Join with us in wishing the
happy pair a bright and prosperous
future. _______
The ball game last Friday between the
O’Neill and Atkinson "aid” nines was
dose and exciting although the boys let
the score run Up pretty wdl. The two
nines are very evenly m|tched and the
players on both sides full of life and if
the diamond had been cut down to kids
. sise the score would have been greatly
lowered. When the Atkinson team went
to bat in the last halt of the ninth the
score stood 17 to 18 in favor of O’Neill
but the boys went right after the ball
and amade the two winning rune with
only one out. The icore by innings was

Cultivating is a thing of the past.
A game of ball was played at Grim
ton last Saturday.
Miss Eva Stevens visited Miss Elsie
Bright last Friday and Saturday.
Mr. Conwell and wife visited Mr. and
Mrs. John Darr last Sunday.
Very hot weather was experienced
here last week.
An unusual number of buggies and
other vehicles were on the road Sunday.
People were calling on their aunts,
uncles, brothers, etc.
Uncle Johnny Walker was taken sud
denly ill Thursday evening with an
attack of neuralgia of the stomach, but
he is now up again.
One of the neighbors called at P. T.
Stevens’ last Sunday and asked to see
Thb Frontier. He said that he would
like to see a good old republican paper
once more.
Harry Bright and his mother called at
John Walker’s last Friday.

day of May, A. D. 1897, John J. McCafferty.
Neil Brennan, J. P. Mann. M. P. Kinkaid. and
Henry Waterman, administrator of the
estate of Barrett Scott, deceased, filed their
petition in the district court of Holt county,
Nebraska, against N. B. Bisbee and Cargill
Graham,defendants, the object and prayer
of which petition is to recover Judgment (and
enforce the payment thereof) on one certain
promissory note given and made by said
defendants for the sum of •S2004.S6, dated M ay
18, 1892, due six months after date, to draw
interest at the rate of ten per cent, per an
num; that there is now due on said note the
sum of <3906.75, for which sum Dlalhtlffs ask
Judgment, that since the beginning of said
action plaintiffs caused to be issued out of
said court an order of attachment against
the lands, tenements, goods, chattels stocks
and credits and what might be owing to said
Cargill Graham in Holt county aforesaid and
caused in connection with said order of
attachment one Charles Knapp therein said
Holt county to be notified or garnisheed to
appear in said court 20th day of July. A. D.
1897, and there answer all questions pro
pounded to him touching the property of said
Cargill Graham in said Knapp’s possession
or under his control, the object being to
reach and obtain an order from the court
requiring said Knapp to pay upon the Judg
ment which plaintiffs seek to recover the
amount he agreed to pay as the purchase
firloe for one quarter section of land situated
n Holt county, which land in fact belongs to
said Cargill Graham and the purchase price
of which is to be paid to said Cargill Graham
by said Charles Knapp, or to be paid to some
third person for the benefit of said Cargill

ment for the sum of one hundred and fifty

Stott Is defendant. That property of the
said L. C. Stott, consisting of one sorrel mare
with two white feet, one bay mare, one black
horse, one bay horse and one sorrel mare,
has been levied on and J. Ivos, Mr. Turner,
first and full name unknown, and G. A.
McCutchan have been garnished undersold
order of attachment. Said cause was con
tinued to the 26th day of July, 1867, at one
