I^he Frontier. if. PUBUSHED EVERT THURSDAY BY ... !§$£« raoarm printing company ||| ' KINS * CRONIN. Editors. ’ p,:' FOE DELEGATE. Hon. Neil Brennan, of O'Neill, bss |’ announced himself as a candidate for 1; delegate from this district to the nation pel republican convention, and Tits 1 Frontier embraces this opportunity to *;fj! , p indorse his candidacy and express the , hope that he may be successful in secur |llng this recognition, which is in no Vise commensurate to bis worth as a £•citlsen and representative republican. Mr. Brennan has resided in Holt f eonnty and this district for more than 21 ! yean, and during the political turmoil f Of all that time suspicion of disloyalty Jlto the party has never attached itself to • ..his name, but on tbe contrary he has p always been in the foreground working . for honest politics and republican ad v* Vancement. Holt county republicans r will without doubt be pleased to honor |ihlm with her delegation, and the other 1' Bounties comprising this senatorial dli~ k Diet should instruct for him without a I-dissenting voice, and we believe they Will. This congressional district is entitled / to two delegates and we suppose the . eternal fitness of things will dictate that oae be chosen from tbe south and one l-.'from the north. In the northern terri ptory there is no man mole eminently , Beatified or highly deserving an oopor | lenity to cast a vote in the convention | for the next president of the United : States than our own Neil Breupan. Wn an told that there was quite a ' bussing of political bees at the Fremont tMWt softer convention. gj OWfMi Bnooss ie making • lively campaign for state treasurer, but then lie won’t be nominated. N«*. f ; 3aon McOou, is a candidate for gov ernor. Holt county cast six votes for K jack in the convention two years ago. Tan Bun aays it is as muoh opposed to the vigilantes as is Thk FnonTian. As long as the light holds out to burn the . vilest sinner may return. r I* Henderson wants the Nebraska ^delegation, and it would seem that he ||dpes, he is entitled to it. His obsnees ' for a presidential nomination are better Sony day than Allison’s. . ( Tan Nebraska boom la on in good Shape and the way the boys of the press gjlwe pushing it along will cut anim ^portant.figure with immigration statis fttfea the coming season. Consistency, rare avis, take the kinks out of , Jpar tail feathers. . . - It has been decided to hold two re lAiblioan conventions in the state this >yoar. The first one, for the election of ^delegates to the national convention, |||jttl be held in Omaha on April 10. The ||§|*r convention, for the nomination of ffjiile candidates, will be held In Lincoln, 'Mobebiy.eo^e time in August. iff|£kMcn day there wlU be a great killing P* Holt county. The vigilantes cannot PI on forever holding up people on the !||jibito highways and make a howling riaoeeas of it. '■ - a , Wb do not view with any great degree of satiafaction this attempt to turn Ne braska's delegates over to McKinley with a ball and chain on each and every one of them. McKinley is all right, but there are other men who are all right and we fail to see any existing emer gency that should even suggest a McKinley instruction, fie is a high protectionist, it is true, but no man wbo la not would think of asking for the republican nomination in this yeai of democratic mismanagement and business depression. In cbosing a candidate from among those already in the field it would be difficult for tbe republican convention to make a mistake. It would be mighty poor politics to tie Nebraska's delegation to the tail of any man’s pres idential boom and we hope it will not be done. __ Tub difference between a vigilante organization and a "Protective Associa tion" amounts to about as much ns tbe difference between tweedledee and tweedledum; a distinction without a dif ference. An organization of cattle men whose object is to prosecute thieves and furnish evidence to the proper au thorities is in itself not a bad thing, but tbe great trouble is that it does not stop where its duties and usefulness end. Unprincipled fellows secure control of the organization and divert it from tbe channel in which it was contemplated it should move, and then come holdups, like that reported last week, and bang* ing bees; men desiring to remove objec tionable people take advantage of the organization to commit deeds of out lawery and they are permitted to go un whipped of justice by the very band that has for its motto, "Law and Order,” Tbe workings of the organization in this county should be sufficient proof that it is a failure, and it is time for all honest men—if any such there be—to come out from among them.
