and conviction of any cattle thief in
Holt county, but tbe county attorney

The state department undoubtedly
thinks It has done a very smart thing,
remarks the American Economist. The
advance sheets of the consular reports
for January contains a statement of ex*
ports declared at different foreign
countries, for the United States, during
the quarter ending September 80, 1805.
Similar statements previously published
also gave the total exports from each
country, os well as the totals for the
corresponding quarter in 1894. These
comparisons have been freely printed by
republican papers. They gave an idea
of the larger share of our markets that
is being acquired by foreign countries.
But we can now fish for this informa
tion. as the totals for each country are
not given, nor are the figures for the
1894 quarter. It is particularly signifi
cant, too, that in the statement of ex
ports from the United Kingdom, no
mention whatever is made of any ship
ments from Bradford, where the exports
of woolen goods for this year were
over 917,000,000 greater than for 1894.
Altogether, the state department’s latest
production is a very shoddy affair, and :
it is a waste of public money to print it
in such a condition.
