Taylor died at his home in Auburn Wednesday forenoon, February 13, 1907, after a long illness from stomach trouble, aged 58 years, 4 months and 29 days. John Wray Taylor was born in Harrison county, Mo., September 14, 1848. Id 1862 he moved to Nebraska with his parents and has made this state his home ever since. For many years he lived at St. Deroin, where he had a store, was postmaster, and managed a farm. About twenty years ago he bought a drug store in Nemaha and moved here, liv inf here about ten years. He then moved to University Place give his son the advantage of the Wesleyan university, and from there went to Auburn, where he has. made his home for a number of years. J. W. Sanders, Dear Sir:-As the "official molder of public opinion, and ex ponent of private rights and public morals," I want you to tell mc a few things that I very much desire to know. Why is it that when a difference of opinion arises between different parties there are always some who want to back up their opinions by fighting even if there be a per fectly fair and rational way of settling things without any hurt to anyone unless perhaps to their pride. Another thing, why is it that if a boy from Nemaha acci dently gets a day's work on the farm, although he may be sur rounded by "Champions" his life and limbs are in no jeopardy, and he receives courteous treatment from every one. from the farmer's wife to the family dog. Now how is it if a poor lone "Champion" gets caught on the street in Nemaha he is obliged to stand and be "talked at" by one boy while a choice crowd stands around wondering if he can be goaded into fighting, and setting him down as a coward and easy mark. Now, Mr. Editor, did you ever stop to think what a peaceful community "Johnny-cake Ridge" is, do you ever hear of any fight ing or disturbance at any of our frequent entertainments, al though we have our full quota of boys and young men. I will tell you why, it is because they al ways have plenty of work to do, good honest, hard work, that will fit each of them to take his place in the world as a man. Idleness is a bad thing for either man, woman or child, and the boy who is ambitious to have the best wheat, and the cleanest corn field, and be able to crib more corn than any other boy of his age, is not going to have any time to "work up his muscle" so he can "lick" some other boy. And in fact will have a wondering contempt for the boy who is al ways ready to fight and imagines that muscle is superior to brains or that the battle is always to the strong. From a genuine Friend of "The Boys," bless them all, good or bad. Rising From the Crave A prominent manufacturer, Wm. A. Fertwell, of Lucama, N. C, relates a moat remarkable experience. He says: "After taking less than three bottles of Electric Bitters, I feel liko one rising from the grave. My trouble is Bright's disease, in the diabetes stage. I fully believe Electric Bitters will cure me permanently, for it has already stopped the liver and bladder complications which have ttoubled me for years. S. Stephens, has now been reversed by the supreme court. This case was reversed for the reason that there was no evidence to sustain the charge of rape. When the case was taken to the supreme court Judge Stull was sick, Mr. Stephens was busy in Iowa, and the labor of pre paring the brief and arguing the same in the supreme court prin cipally ell on Fred G. Hawxby, who made an excellent brief and a strong argument in the supreme court for which he was nicely complimented by the attorneys present in court, and further complimented by the decision of the court written by Judge Letton, one of the aolest and purest judges in the state. Judge Letton served the people of this district ably and well with Judge Stull for eight years, which term of eight years was remarkable on account of the costs saved, and economy generally in con ducting the district court and further on account of the vtry few reversals of judgments. The Vanghn case was decided on the strong points that Mr. Hawxby made in his argument and was decided by the three j udges of the supreme court. All of the judges of the supreme court served the people of this state long and well as judges of the district courts. They are very able lawyers and pure men without spot or blemish and they are careful and painstaking ser vants of the people. How's Your liver?
