Ralph Ritchey returned home last Friday evening, after visit ing for three or four weeks with his brother Frank in Colorado. He also took in Denver, Pueblo and other places of interest. The wind blew off half of the roof of a box car on the east bound Beatrice freight last Fri day 'afternoon, between Beatrice and Rockford. He was driving a young team and they started with him at the lumber yard, running north. When they struck the crossing they almost threw Dave out. They turned into the sidewalk in ''ont of the meat market and stopped without doing any dam age. 1 Wm. E. Smilcy's house was struck by lightning during the storm last Friday afternooM. The bolt struck the chimney, loosening brick to about six inches below the roof. It ran down a rafter, tearing it to pieces and loosening the shingles for a.strip about six inches wide down one side of the roof. Plas tering was knocked off in one room and soot scattered all over the house. The bolt jumped from one side of the room straight across to the opposite side, going out over the door, tearing the casing and splintering one board of the siding.
