Crow went to Bracken Tuesday to visit his daughter, Mrs. Kite. Von Farson moved on a farm a mile and a half from Johnson last Friday. Rob Russell of Leroy, Nebr., came in to Nemaha Wednesday to visit friends. August Quiller shipped two ! car loads of baled hay to Kansas City this week. Mrs. W. H. Hoover, who has been visiting at Lincoln, returned home last Friday. Misses Stella and Bessie Wash burn went to Peru Tuesday to enter the Normal school. Claude Maxwell is now bag gageman at Wymore. Eddie is fireman on the switch engine. The school board has had the brick walk laid on the east and north of the school house grounds. A little over an inch of water fell during the rainfall Tuesday and Tuesday night. Elmer E. Allen and wife visit ed C. T. Minick and family at Johnson Wednesday. A Mr. Alexander, from Belle ville, Kas., has moved to Nema ha and will work on the section. Misses Nora Aynes and Bessie Kay have been assisting John W. Ritchey during .the absence of Miss Anna Knapp. F. E. Hoover moved to Nema hq. Saturday, . or rather started to move there, and has boon moving over since. Bruce Earl of Imperial, Nebr.. arrived in Nemaha last Saturday and has been the guest of James A. Stephenson and family. Mrs. Florence Jarvis and fani' ily, who have been visiting at Wabash, Neb., returned home Thursday afternoon of last week. Jersey Cow Wanted John S. Ray Clark presented tho edi tor with a big watermelon and tho angels with another big one Thursday morning, . for which he has the thanks of the entire force. $ John Board camo in from Ravenna, Nebi, a few days ago to help take care of his aged father, who is very sick, suffering from a cancer on his face and dropsy. A number of Earle Gilbert's customers are getting tho pre miums allowed with cash pur chases. All express themselves well pleased, as tho premiums are of tho best qualities. Rev. Gould, tho now Metho dist minister for Brownville and Bethel, is a now man in this conference, coming hero from the west Nebraska conference. He is said to be an able man. Fred Hoover gave tho editor a nice watermelon Tuesday the only trouble with it was that it was not ripe. But Fred prom ises us another one in its place and guarantees that it will be all right. He will probably not move on it until next spring. G. N. Titus and R. E. Bucher shipped a mixed car of annles. peaches and grapes to Farnham. Nebr., Friday. Bob went with the load to sell them out. R. V. Muir of Brownville. in his articles in the Granger under the head of "Historic Brown ville," continues; to pour hotshot into tho advocates of saloons. C. H. Comptonand H. C. Swope of Meitz, Mo,, were in Nemaha last week assisting in taking the machinery out of the old Bennett mill and loading it on the cars. They left Friday. Conner, fusion candidate for county commissioner, was in ;erviewing the voters in Nemaha Monday. It was taken sick while Jim was at the state fair, and though veterinarians from Falls City and Auburn were sent for. they could not save it. Bena Rebekah lodge had a time" at .heir regular meetine- a Wednesday night. Lester Pea- body and wife were initiated. There were a nomber of visitors present from Shubert. After lodge adjourned ice cream and cake were served. There was. a good attendance of members and all s )tmed to have a good time. John W. Colerick has bought the old Bennett mill property with the exception of the ma chinery. It comprises about five acres of land, the mill building and the two old houses. He paid $300 f orjt Ora J. Thorp has sold his crop to Walt Maxwell and is loading his household goods, farm ma chinery, etc., to move to his farm in Colorado. Walt will move on the May farm, where Ora has been living. The postmaster is required to exercise a little ingenuity and common sense as well as in de ciphering the addresses of some letters. One came Wednesday morning addressed to "Dad and Mam and Babe". It was deliv ered all right. A short time ago one came addressed to "The An gels" but of course no trouble was found in delivering this. An order was recently received by Nemaha parties from a for mer Nemahaite now living in Monowi, Boyd county, in the ex treme northern part of the state for a bushel of prwpaws. One would suppose from this that he was a native Mjssourian. Last week a delegation of Ne maha people went to Colorado to look at the land. The party was composed of A. B. Paris, Dayid Frazier, John Strain, Tom Woods and Fred Crane. Dave Frazier bought 80 acres of land six miles northwest of Sterling, Colorado, and Art Paris leased a fatm in the same neighborhood. The Nemaha school was opened Monday morning with a good attendance of pupils in all departments. Miss Madge Car lisle of Peru has charge of the primary department temporarily, as Miss Lillian Neal, engaged for that position, is in the hospital being treated for eye trouble.
