Allen of Bracken. Mrs. Chester Sedoras returned to Brownville Tuesday after a few days' visit with her parents, Rev. J. W. Sapp and wife. Theodore and Bertie Hill came up from Shubert Friday of last week and visited their grand mother until the next day. Judging from the number of young chickens being raised, there will be no chicken famine in this community for awhile. Mrs. Ingham, mother of Mrs. James L. Knight, died at her home in South Auburn, last Sat urday and was buried Monday. Mrs. 0. E. Houtz and Mrs. Sherwood drove over to Stella Monday. Mrs. Houtz came back the same day but her mother will visit for awhile. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bridge, formerly well known citizens of Peru, celebrated their golden wedding June 18 at their home near, Gresham, Oregon. Mrs. Elmer E. Allen and her mother, Mrs. E. A. Minick, went to Syracuse, Nebr., Tues day, to visit their sister and daughter, Mrs. A. R. Titus. We have been having cool nights satisfactory to those who like a good night's rest, but not so pleasing to corn growers, who want warm nights to push the corn along. Walter S. Maxwell, who has been landlord of the Park hotel for two or three years, has gone out of business and has moved into the Wheeldon house. The hotel will be closed indefinitely. A surprise party was given last Friday night, by the young people of the neighborhood, to Miss Frances Hoover, daughter of F. E. Hoover, on the occasion of her eighteenth birthday. The people in the neighborhood are taking great interest in it. The older people are attending and there is a large bible class and class of young people. Elmer Zook is superintendent. The patrons of the Nemaha cemetery are certainly pleased with the present management. For two weeks a notice was published that on last Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock a meeting would be held at the bank to which all were invited. After waiting until 3:30, only four were present Elmer E. Allen, J. I. Dressier, F. L. Woodward and W. W. Sanders all members of the board of directors. Little business was transacted!. A party was given Saturday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Roberts, in honor of their son, Clyde Roberts, who was home from Kansas City on a visit. Mr. and Mrs. Roberts thoroughly understand the art of entertaining, and were helped by Ole and Clyde and Misses Pearl and Lockie, so of course all present spent a delightful even ing. The children's day exercises at the Methodist church Sunday night were the best ever given in Nemaha. iThe sentiment of the selections, especially those of the regular program, were fine. The title of the program was "Comrades of the Cross." Every one taking part had their part to perfection. The singing and the marching on and off the stage by the little ones was excellent. Mrs. Allen and Mrs. McCandless who had charge of the exercises and trained the children, re ceived great praise for the result of their efforts.
