Sim glMW Utlll.lJMt JLIJ MURDBRSUICIDE David Carrol Shoots and Kills Anna Gillispie. Better Known as Anna Maxwell, and then Kills Himself. The Bodies Found m a Tho community was groatiy shock ed Thursday morning by tho news Unit David Carrol had killed Miss Anna Gllliapio, and thou killed him self. Davoy, aa ho wiia uaually called, has )oen working for E, J. Maxwell, Hv. ng a mile and a half northwest of Nomaha. Anna waa staying with Mrs. Ann Maxwell, mother of E. J. Tho houses aro only nvo or six rods apart, and Davey slept upstairs in Mrs. Ann Maxwell's houao but got his meals at Ed's. Anna Gillispie was taken to tho poor farm when a little baby, while Mrs Ann Maxwell and her husn uanu, jonn mux won deceased, wore managers, nnd had been raised by Mrs. Maxwell aud wont by tho name of Anna Maxwell, but had nevor boen legally adopted, Wednesday night Anna wont to Dan Maxwell's about a naif tnllo west, to attend a reading circle, and stayed all night, Between 0 and 10 o'clock soino ono 11 red four or 11 vo shots in front of tho bouBo. Tho next morns ing Annu went ovor homo about 7 o'clock, and started to got breakfast. She then took tho milk pail and wont out towards tho cow lot to milk the cow. This was tho last time alio wub seen alive. David Carrol wont to Mrs Maxwell's about 0 o'clock to go to bed. Mrs. Maxwell told him to blow out the light aa Anna would not bo home. It is thought he wont over to Dan Max woll's and thero saw Anna with David Holmes which aroused his joalouay, and it is supposed that ho (lred tho shots heard. Thursday morning ho wont ovor to Ed Maxwell's and did the chores and was as cheerful as usual. Ho brought in tho milk about 7 o'clock and said ho would go out to look for u cow. Mrs Ann Max wall waited a long time for Anna to return and then got Aan Kitzol, who ia staying at Ed's, to go and look for her. Uncle David Maxwoll also went out to look. Mr. Maxwell found tho largo door to tho barn fastened so he could not got in so ho went to tho end door, and thero dis covered that two of tho horsoa had been taken out of tho baru and tied in a shed. Theso horses stood in the doublo stall in tho northeast corner of tho barn, whilo tho entrance where Mr. Maxwall.went in was in tho west. He did uot discover anything wrong so went out. Mrs: Kitzel in her search went In tho barn and in the northeast stall, whoro the horses had boon takon out, discovered the bodieB of Davey and Anna. The stall had been cleaned out, hay put in and a horse blanket spread over this. Anna waa lying on her back next to tho man ger, with two bullet wounds in her forehead. Davey was lying about 18 inches from her, with a bullet wound In hia right temple. The revolver with tho deed waa committed waa lys ing between tho bodiea, whore it hud dropped from Davoy's hund. Both parties were dead. Tho bodies wero discovered about 0:80 and wero then about cold. Tho empty milk pail was in the feed box of tho Btall where the bodies wero found. Thero were no signs of auy struggle, as tho clothing was not disarranged in any way, and the horse blanket on which they lay was smooth. A comforter was lying in one of tho feed boxes at this stall. Everything showed the arrangements had boen carefully made. The faces of both wero as peaceful as if thoy had just dropped UBleop. An inqnost was hold by Coronor Lutgen Thursday afternoon. Tho tes timony brought out showed the follow Ing facts: Davoy had thought a groat deal of Anna for somo time. For awhilo Anna apparently reciprocated this feeling, but rocontly had shown evidences of thinking more of David Holmes, Anna wns only 16 yoars old, while Davey was about 35 years old. Recently David Holmos, who is 18 yeara old, has been paying Anna sorao attention and it is thought this aroused Davoy's joalousy and was the cause of this terrible act. ne had planned Horse Stall in Barn tho deed for ovor a week, Tuesday or Wedneaday of last weak ho triod to borrow a rovolver of Warren Stokea, but not getting ono ho wont to Ed wards & Bradford's storo and bought a Colt's !12 revolver, Thia waa on Wednesday of last week, but tho car tridges in tho storo would not fit tho rovolver, so Fritz Wilkening, tho man agor, told him ho waa going to Ncbn raskaCity and would got tho cartridges then. When Wilkening wont to tho I train Davey called to him not to forget the cartridges and on Monday fores noon as soon as the train was in he called at tho store and got a box of fifty. Of these 25 wore found in tho box, 10 in Davoy's pants pockot nnd two in tho rovolver. There woro four empty shells In tho revolver. Tho jury was composed of J I Dress ier, G N Titus, iV S Russell, W W Sanders, E L Paris and W 11 Barker. Thoy brought in a verdict that 'A nna Gillispie cumo to hor death March 17, 1004, by shots fired into her head from a revolver held in the hands of David Carrol, and the same was done felon iously." Also that "David Carrol came to his death March 17, 1004, by a bullet flrod from a revolver held in his own hands and tho same was done felt oniously." In uddition to tho wounds in Anna's head n bullet had gone through tho second finger of hor loft hand. This hand wns also blackened with powder. It was supposed she threw her hand up whon Davoy ahot hor. The flesh on her forehead was powder burned. The physlciana testify that Anna waa a chaste and virtuoua girl. Thero ia a difference of opinion aa to whether alio consented to hor death or not. A small rope three or four feet long with a slipnooBo in it was lying near Davoy's head, but thero waa no evis donee that It had been used. Thero wore no bruises or marks of rough treatment on tho body. The funoral of David Carrol was held at tho homo of Mm Maxwell at 11 o'clock Friday, conducted by tho Odd Follows, he being a member of that lodgo The funoral of Anna Gillispie was held Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Methodist church, of which Anna was a member.
