Mrs. Francis W. Brooks, of Weep ing Water, was taken to the Lincoln asylum. In May, 1901, her husband, J. W. Itrooks, was admitted to the asylum. Uroolcs was formerly in the grain business at Weeping Water and worry over business matters de throned his reason. Kvery few weeks since his incarceration, Mrs. Brooks has been a visitor at the asylum to see her husband. The constant worry over bis condition finally drove her Insane, New Town Ncitr Humboldt. Niius City Is the name of a new town which lias been started on the farm of Frank Niius, about 12 miles southeast of Humboldt. A company has been formed to build the city linll. It Is understood the new town will take the place of Mlddleburg, which was wiped almost out of ex istence nt the time of the establish ment of Humboldt's mail routes, caused the government to discontinue .tlie post office at that place. Mrs. Cutler and her three children were upset from their wagon and thrown into the backwater from the ICIkhorn river and were only rescued after having been in (he water for several hours. Mrs. Ostler and the ehildrn were driving into Valley, when Ihe horses fell into a washout near the bridge ii vo miles northeast of Valley. The wagon was upset and four horses, two of which were fol lowing the wagon, were drowned. Mrs. Ostler and the children were saved from drowning by some brush wood in tin stream and were finally icseued nnd taken to Valley by some passerby. Meriwether Lewis and Cnpt. William Clark. It Is proposed in ihe bill that $5,000 be appropriated, with which the board of public lands and buildings shall purchase a site and build a monument at or near Fort Calhoun, in Washington county, pointing out (lie place where Lewis and Clark and their companions land ed, where (he council between them and (he Indians was held August -1. 1801, and where Fort Atkinson wns afterward located. Under Secreta ry Smith returned to Lincoln from the. west and said that prospects of irrigation next year were greatly en hanced by the high water in Nebraska streams.
