supper in Nemaha Friday night of last

Frank Woodward found one of bis
line two-year-old celts lying dead in
the paeture- a few days ago. He was
lying in a gully aud had probably fallen
over tne bank and broken his neck.
Mr. Woodward will assist in the
sale of Nemaha lots belonging to the
W. II. Hoover estate and otherwise
iiulp in the business.

pleased with her as a teacher.
Miss Minnie May has probably the
smallest deg in the county. He weighs
just 20 ounces. Miss Minnie named
him Goliah, but says everybody calls
him "Golly," so she has about conclud
ed to change bis name to "Jolly."
Miss Pearl Hiatt was thirteen years
old Tuesday and a surprise party was
given her that night by ber parents,
Mr. and Mrs. John A. Hiatt. Judging
from the expressions of pleasure of
those present, all bad a good time,
The school board held n meeting
Thursday night and elected teachers
for the intermediate and primary de
partments, und made arrangements for
the commencement exercises. Carl E.
Sanders was selected by a unanimous
vote us teacher of the intermediate de
partment. MiSB Jessie Steutevllle was
selected as teacher ef the primary de
partment, W. V. Steutevllle was se
lected as principal last week.
Carl E. Sanders graduated from the
Nemaha high school in 1800. For the
past two years he has been teaching,
and has proven a successful teacher.
Miss Steutevllle is one of the best pri
mary teachers in the county. She Is a
sister of W. V. and John Steutevllle,
and has had several years' experience
in school work.

Mildred, daughter of Mr. nnd Mrs.
Hd L Parle, died at hor home two and
one-half miles northwest of Nemaha,
Friday, April 20th, 1001, at 10 o'clock
p. m. The funeral services, conducted
by Elder T. J. Oliver, of Peru, were
held at the Cumberland Presbyterian
church at 10 o'clock Sunday forenoon.
The remains were taken to Auburn for
burial.
Mildred had an attack of scarlet
fever last fall, from tho effects of
which she never recovered. Sim was
ten years and six days old. Her par
ents, one slater nnd two brothers have
our sympathy in their grief.
To tho dear relatives aud friends
who so kindly assisted us through the
long illness and at tho burial of our
darling Mildred, we take this means of
expressing our heartfelt thanks.

waa a Nemaha visitor last Friday,
stepping over for the Odd Fellows

gelding for which he has been
