Tho pop stato convention at Hastings declared in furor of. endorsing Bryan nt St. Louis. Tho Duff Grain Co. of Nebraska City has bean buying and shipping grain at Noinaha this week. Dr. I. C. Sutton, of Shubort, gave us a social call Thursday evening. Tho doctor has boon located at Shubert about Bovan months, and is working up u good praciico. boo his card in an other column. S. Gilbert has bought of Mrs. M. Crother tho lot south of tho bank, whore tho harness shop formerly Btood and tho hulf lot on which tho post ofllce building now stands. Tho con oldoratlon was 8200. Tho following shipments were made from tho McCandlcss Siding during tho past wook, by Harry McCandloss: July 113 cars wheat, " 124 " " " 141 " " 153 " " One car of wheat was also shipped from Nemaha. All Burlington, Iowa. was skipped to Hayden Huberts, a farmer living near Peru, beat his wifo to death Sat urday night, and then killed himself. After killing his wife ho wroto a note tolling where his body could bo found, and then wont outdoors some distance from tho liouao and shot himself in the temple. Ho had had troublo with his wifo over some property, and has re contly shown symptoms of an unbaN anced mind. The pops held their county conven tion at Auburn last Saturday. John I. Dressier, Dave Thompson, J. II. Lit troll, Geo. E. Dya.Wm. Andereon.John StophenBon and Chas. W. Roberts were the dolegates from this precinct. Geo. E. Dyo was sent as a delegate to the stato convention, hold at Hastings on Wednesday. At that convention G. W. Cornell was elected a delegate to tho national convention at St. Louis. Tho church of God have erected a tabernacle in the. Nemaha park and started a protracted meeting. The meeting is in charge of Rev. A. A. Kinsoy . assisted by his wife and J. S Backus. James A. Willis is expected to be here In a day or two, to assist in tho meetings. It Is probable that thoso people will stay here two or threo weeks, or as long as good interest is manifested. Everybody is Invited to attend. Mrs. Belle Sanders, of Brownvillc, organized a Woman's Relief Corps in Nemaha Wednesday. Tho following otllcera wero elected : Mrs. E. A. The Epworth League young people give an entertainment at the Minick hall Saturday night of this week. Tho entertainment will consist of a tea given by George Washington and wife, to Thomas Jefferson and wife, John Adams and wife, General Clinton and wife, and other distinguished parties, dressed in old time costumes. After this tho new woman will appear, McKinley and Bryan will bo present. An old time witch will toll the past, present and futuro, for only one cent. The entertainment in free, but after this is over ice cream and cake will bo served, for which 10 cents will bo charged. Tho proceeds will be used to purchase singing book for tho church. County commissioners met July 2, 1800, pursuant to adjournment as a board of equalization. All membors present. Tho examination and equalization of the assosaors returns wero continued and still ponding tho board adjournsd to July 3, 1800. July 3. Tho board having decided that tho real estate of Island precinct was assessed to low tho board ordered said real estato in said precinct raised 70 per cent or $8371 above tho valua tion returned by the assessor. Equal ization still ponding board adjourned to 1 o'clock p. m July 0, 1800. Board met July 0 in regular session pursuant to adjournment. All mem bers present. Lots 6, 0, 7, 8, 0, 10 and 11, block 42, Brownvillo propor, rero sold for taxes for the year 181 to 1894 inclusive for 810. The petition for tho opening of tho Schlelfer road camo up lor a rehearing and was again rejected. Hoard ad journed at 12 o'clock to July 7, 1800. Miss Mary Chamberlain closed her engagement with Mrs. Harper, here last Friday, and returned to her horaa at Nemaha. Miss Mary is a very esti mable young lady, and made for qv self many warm friends while here, who regret her dopartuie. Tho family of Mr. H. E. Williams arrived in Shubert Wednesday oveni ing, and have gone to housekeeping in the Jonas building. They will make valuable citizens and art wolcomed by tho entire town , and all hope that their Btay here will bo mutually pleas ant. From a private letter to J. D. Shu bert from his father, we learn that the fruit crop this year in California will bo almost a total failure, owing to an early freeze.
