wont to Sutherland and woro defeated
again and It was harder to find an
alibi, Lincoln high came along and
doreatcd North Platto last Saturday
night and tho fans said It was becauso
Lincoln was such a big town. Then
Monday night tho Sutherland boys do
foatcd that big town team from Lin
coln and it has boon dawning on
tho local basket ball fellows that they
mny ho all wrong and that Sutherland
has a real team of huskios which is
entitled to It's shnn. of victories and
that the size of tho town doos not
crm t. Thoy aro remembering that
tho stnto champions of Nebraska last
year camo from tho littlo town of
Sutton. Tho result of tho wholo thing
Is a conviction that pro-season games
arc likely to bo uncortain to Lincoln
no well as to North Platto and that
Sutherland is lined up to mako a re
cord of wlflch wo may all bo proud.

en out from the offlco of tho Stato
Superintendent of Public Instruction
of Nebraska, Lincoln , county rural
schoolB received moro money from
tho state aid fund than any other
county In tho stato. Thirty-eight school
districts 1n this county Bhared In tho
distribution of $8,240.00. This Is from
a total of $35,008.00 which was appro
priated by tho last legislature to aid
tho weak school districts of Nobraska.
Whllo this Is comparatively a large
sum, It Is not any moro than this
county desorvos. Brown county got
$0,048.00 for twenty four districts and
tho nroa of that county Is Just about
ono-fourth thnt of Lincoln county.
Tho fact Is that Lincoln county got
her sharo of this, money bbcau3o of
th- attention given tho mattdr by our
rotlrlng county superintendent, Mrs.
Alleen O. Cochran. To hor should tho
crodlt be given that thirty-eight school
districts havo beon nblo to hold mora
months of school becauso of this help
than thoy would havo boon nblo to

limit of taxation 'upon themselves,

of tho Soldlor'B Rollof fund. Tho total
on hand nt tho beginning of tho year
was $1708 and tho' balance nt tho closo
of tho year was $1430.07. Tho amount
received during tho year was $53.51.
This was from back taxes or similar
source of rovenuo. Tho fund has beon
raised by taxation for many years un
til during tho past two years whon no
lovy has boon made. Tho Soldier's
Relief fund was planned to help old
soldiers and their widows, nnd has
sorvod its purposo well in years past
but with tho diminishing ranks need
has become loss until now thoro seems
to bo enough money lri tho fund to
meet tho needs for somo timo to como.

LEASE CONTRACTS
All school lands under leaso ore subject to appraisement at any
timo tho Board of Educational Lands and Funds so elects.
Tho holders of lease contracts oxecutod subsequent to July 9, 1S97,
aro given tho right, at tho expiration of said contracts, to apply for
now contracts. If tho bid of tho lessee shall be equal to the amount
bid by any othor person, tho lessee's bid shall be accepted. (This
means that if at tho closo of tho auction tho lessee's bid Is as much as
tho highest blddor, his bid shall bo accepted.) If tho highest bid re
ceived shall bo made by a porson othor than tho lessee, tho value of
all tho improvements on tho land shall bo appraised by tho county
board, which shall bo made within thirty (30) days after the accept
ance of tho bid, and nftor being signed, shall, within (5) days, bo filed
with tho county treasuror of tho county in which tho land is situated.
Tho lessoo and successful blddor shall sharo equally In tho costs of
thoappralsomont. Either tho lessee or the successful blddor may, if
dissatisfied witli tho appraisomont, within thirty (30) days after the
flliug thereof, appeal therefrom to tho District Court. Tho successful
bidder, If ho bo othor than tho former lessoo, shall, within thirty (30)
dny'a after tho filing of tho appraisomont, pay to tho county treasurer,
for tho uso of tho former losaoe, tho amount of tho appraisomont.

tho same as stipulated in tho old contract; Provided, that all of tho
rental duo on tho old contracts has beon paid.
No lands now owned or hcroaftor acquired by tho stato for educa

acres and all undivided interests in realty and all city lota hold by tho
Stato of Nobraska in trust for tho permanent school fund; appraise
tho same, and upon tho oxplratlon of tho leases and whoro tho leaso
title has beon forfeited, offer tho samo for salo at public auction. To
bo sold by tho county treasuror of tho county in which tho lands aro
located, to tho hlghost blddor for not lossan ninety (90) por cont of
tho appraised valuo. Tho purchasor shall not pny loss than twcnty-flvo
(25) por cont in cash on day of salo, and tho bnlanco to ho secured by
Bnlo contracts running ton years at six (G) por cont annual interest;
tho purchasor having tho right to pay all of tho unpaid purchase
monoy, or any part of it in multiples of flvo (5) por cont of tho total
purchaso prico at any interest payment duo. In tho ovont tho purchaser
of tho nssigneo doos not pay tho annual interesfupon tho unpaid pur
chaso prico within six (G) months nftor Interest becomes duo, tho land
shall rjvort to tho stato.
All school land loasos issued after July 8, 1897, will expire January
1, 1923 at which timo tho lands therein doscrlbod will bo advertised
and leased at public auction at tho offico of tho county troasuror in
tho respective counties.
Tho amount of school land authorized to bo leased, direct or by
