Do you remember l'hlncn.s
Fogg, Jules Verne's hero I Well,
riilncns departed on lils elxluy
day tri) nrouml the world but
forgot t turn out the gns Jet
tluit amis burning lu the bntli
room. Fortunately, upon his
return, lie remembered tbnt lie
bad left the gus burning and
there was no argument over
the bill.
Forgotfulnoss of this sort,
howover, Is a frequent occur
ronco and It soenis to bo human
nature for tho customer to first
berate' tho company, claiming
that tho meter Is wrong, and
then discover his mistake.
During a cold spell in a
fiouthorn city several customers
declared that their bills Wero
exorbitant. A little investiga
tion disclosed tho fact that the
negro servants wore using the
gas rango ovens to warm their
feet, njul tho practice threat
ened to becomo quite popular
until tho irate employers put an
end to It.
When your gas bill appears
to bo too large, think twice bo
foro you blaino tho meter, for
It Isn't very often the mcler'a
fault.

I PURE BRED
ffi Union Stock Yards, North Platte, Nebraska
iffi This is my Fifth Annual Sale of the good old Shorthorn Breed of Cat-
j3 tie I am offering to the public, and will say I am selling the real pro-
tpj ducing kind that the farmer wants and needs along with his other line
LfJ of business to make a success.
j There never was a better lime to buy Pure Bred Stock to put on the
g3 farm than right now. You can buy them worth the money and you
will have them when they will be higher.
j-jFj This offering is well bred and good individuals, not pampered and ov-
gj erfed, but in good condition to do you some good. There are thirty
jfjl lots catalogued:
ijpj 8 Cows having calves at foot, some re-bred and others well
along in calf. 14 Bulls, eight months to five years old, red,
white and roan, some real bulls to put in your herd.
One attraction in this sale is one cow selling with twin heifer calves at
foot, and another cow with bull calf at foot, and the buyer of this cow
will have to use his milk bucket along with the calf to take care of the
milk. She is a real milk cow and I am gelting five gallons a day be
side what the calf takes. Do not overlook this. You do not have to
own three cows to feed to get your milk. Don't forget the date, April
1 8, 1 922. Write for catalogue.

Been General.
Wars have been waged over what
should be the proper Uny for tho cele

been rent by differences of opinion
as to how the festival should bo ob
served. Easter has been the first day
of the year, and, for hundreds of yenra
ut n time, there have been not one but
often several Eusters, each defended
y its' advocates. In the controversy
both sun and moon have been called
In to give testimony and since those
two witnesses failed fully to agree
there has grown up a difference, so
that our Christlnn Easter might bo
culled the sun Euster, whereas the
near-by l'assover of the Jews might
be termed the moon caster or moon
pussovcr. It was indeed, according to
much weighty ttsthuouy, a carrying
on into Christendom of the passover
idea, by which the paschal lamb be
came tho Christ, or rather Christ the
paschal lamb, In the beautiful church
symbolism. And further back this
rare time of spring's rebirth, of niw

Instinct that seems to have asserted
itself in man at certain times of the
year to pause amid his routine labors
and give thanks to a supernal power,

HOLY PLACES IN JERUSALEM
Stations of the Cross Are Objects of
me Most solemn Reverence at
Easter Time,
''iho stations of the cross, the eighth
of which is shown in tho Illustration,
arc the objects of solemn reverence
lu Jerusalem on Easter, The 14 sta
tions are supposed to ilx the slto of
tho chief events on the path of Christ
from Pilate's hall to Calvary, The
Irst station Is in the barracks on the
lte of tho castle of Antonio. Here
Uirlst was condemned to death. The
second stntion marks (he spot where
the cross was laid upon Christ. At
tho third stntion Christ Is said to have
sunk under the weight of tho cross.
At the fourth station Christ is be
lieved to have mot Ills mother. The
llfth stntion on the sorrowful wnj Is
where Simon of Cyreno relieved Christ
of tho cross. At the sixth stntion Is the
house of Snint Veronica who is said
to have wiped the Savior's brow with
her veil. The seventh station is at
tho Portn .Tudlciurin whore Christ fell
a second time under the cross. It Is
at the eighth station that Jesus com
forted the women of Jerusalem. The
ninth station Is In front of the Coptlv
monastery. Stations ten, eleven,
twelve and thirteen are In the Golgotha
chapels of the church of the Holy
Sepulchre, marking the spots whero
Jesus was disrobed and fastened to
Li'i h Station of the Cross,
the cross, where the cross was raised,
mid the spot whero the Virgin Mary
received the body of Christ as It wns
taken down from the cross. The Inst
station is at the total) In tho church of
the Holy Sepulchre. It Is now marked
by a chapel, n building erected inside
the church. Many priceless lntups hang
before tho innrhle-toppcd tomb, now
one of the most venerated altars In
Christendom, Tho traditional Gethsein
ano Is on the side of the Mount of
Olives across the Kcdron. The garden
Is nt present n walled enclosure cared
for by Franciscan monks who bestow
great attention on eight ancient olive
trees supposed to bo remnants of a
Wove standing nt the tlmo of Christ's
agony.
Easter Thoughts.
Upon each -of tho great stations of
our calendar year wo Instinctively
pause nnd glvo thought to ccrtnln
phases of life, to close our accotmts
with tho past nnd to open a new nnd
a clean page. At January 1 our
thoughts uro apt to bo material, to
relate to our physical deeds of tho
past and our promises of betterment
In tho future. On other days, like
July 4 or November 11, our Ideas turn
to patriotic facts nnd our fellow citi
zens. At Christmas, In spite of our
understanding of tho tremendous im
port of tho birth In Kcthlehem, we
think of children nnd of tho nnrrowor
splrllunllty Hint of necessity accom
panies those who have not yet known
sorrow, sin and repentnnce. Hut nt
Easter spiritual thoughts are nmturo
thoughts. Tim Ideas the doy of lilies
Inspires nro tliose that follow n pro
knowledgo of evil, nnd the Joy of that
glorious day .Is still restrained and
pnlo with tho recent sadness of the
via crufls and of Golgotha.
