A claim ngent of the Union Pacific
railroad was in town thin wock mak
ing inquiries about Joo Sullivan
bumping into their fine train with his
auto a few weeks ago, Mr. Sullivan
asked for damages, but us ho did not
get killed or crippliod nnd has no wit

for scratching up their varnished
cars, that is if they can locate them
on tho lino botweon Chicago and San

WINTER IS HERE
Friday night tho second snow of
the season visited this section and
while it did not covor tho ground to
tho extent of an Inch or' so, afforded
some moisture, and this la what tho
farmor is in search of. During the
forenoon there wore attempts at ralu,
nnd thoro was mist, then some snow
as it turned cold. Tho coal bin it
being rested but most ovoryono would
rather sco more snow as it is really
needed. Tho very changoablo weather
has given cause for a numbor of sick
cases In and around town. Throat ali
ments ooem to prevail. Wallace Win

was the estimated amount per acre
that wns to be assessed against land
In tho district. While definite figured

mate about $20.80 per acre. This la
over $10.00 below his original figures,
and this lessoning Is due to roduccd

WINTER CONCERTS
The Ogalalla band has secured the
Princess theater for tho first concert
of tho winter.
Tho program for this concert will
bo varied so that thoro will bo Inter
esting numbers for all. Tho main
feature of course will bo "music by
tho band" but thoro will bo a number
of noted monologlsts and a solo by a
very popular soprano.
Taken all together it will be a moat
onjoyablo ovenlng.
Tho director advises Uiose wishing
to join tho band to make arrangements
to start at onco Tho now class Juht
starting will bo closed for entry Jan
uary 1, and there wll bo no othor
chance before next fall. Tho meeting
night for tho now class Is for Thurs
day evenings. Keith County Nowh.
RIOHT-OF-WAY
Tho question of right-of-way for
tho now transmission line was the
topic at a mooting of tho village
board Wednesday ovenlng. W. II.
Rose, representing tho Hcnnlngton
Engineering company of Omaha, and
Bruce Brown, tho local tolophono
man, got together on tlo cost of
moving Mr. Brown's tolophone lino,
ami it was finally docldod that Mr
Brown bo paid $000.00 for moving hla
lino from tho Lincoln Highway to the
noxt road north, which Mr. Brown
agreed to do. As wo understand it,

Hie folks seem to have everything of the
sort you want to give. And so the gift
problem remains unanswered until fin?1
necessity forces a hurried choice. This
year, visit your Jeweler. With large
variety and trained knowledge of the sen
sible and appropriate) he will make the
selection of a gift as enjoyable as the mo
ment of its giving. Feel free to invite your
Jeweler's suggestion and examine his
stock for gifts of any price.

company pay him tho other $200, $600

right-of-way. Building of tho trans

going on now with three crews. Thnt
part of the new lino is expected to

SAVES IN SHAVES
Tho present day tendency is to
ward low prices. Just how far this
should be carried In many kinds of
business at tho present time Is a mat
ter of question. Thoro has-'boen a dc-H
mand on tho part of a few at least j
we havo learned from a conversation
with E. C Knoles of tho Paxton bar
ber shop that prices bo cut here. The
demand has como largely from tho
onco-a-weok patrons of tho shop. Now
let us get down to brass tacks and
compute tho saves In shaves to tho
avorago customer In the course of a
year Tho onco-a-wcok follow would
savo 5 cents a week on his shaves by
tho nlcklo cut In tho price or tho
sum of $2.60 per year. The average
follow gets a hair cut about once r.
month. The cut of 10 cents In price
ahows a saving of $1.20 per year. Thus
It will bo seen thnt tho total saving
to the average patron of tho barber
shop would bo $3.80 por year a small
Item to tho Individual but a big Item
to the barber In the course of a year's
business. Paxton Times,

had two lawyers. Of course you
know by this time that this robbery
was a fake and tho trial was a mock
one, but nevertheless It had all the
carmnrks of a real one. Jurors,
lawyers and judge were all on hand,
nnd Rev. Johnson, as lawyer for
tho defense put the Jurors through n
regular catechism when challenging
their right to act as Jurors, L. P.
Roso was president of tho institution
which had been burglnrlzcd, and stat
ed when ho camo down In the morning
all the funds had disappeared excopt
a draft which tho safe crackers
couldn't handle, this was loft on tho
furnace. Ttyo defendants wero dis
missed lecause the Jury couldn'l
agree. Reports do not toll whother
they will bo retired, but If thoy do
tho chances are strong that standing
room will bo at a premium In the
court room. Arnold Sentinel.
