Yesterday Just after dinner tho threo sections of tho concroto bridge OTor tho South Platto IUvor Just south of this city fell Into tho river. No warning was given and one man was caught in tho fall and had to bo re scued by bystanders. On account of tho excessive rains in the west the South Platte has been rising rapidly since last week and Sunday It over flowed Its banks Bouth o tho city and camo up to the city limits of North Platte.. It cut a channel through the fill of tho south approach but a hast ily constructed dike again put tho water back into tho channel. . Tlio force of the water has ovldontly un dermined tho concroto piers for they tumbled into tho current. This bridge was built during tho war at a cost of $40,000. Of this amount, $20,000 was paid by tho state, $10,000 by North Platte and $10,000 by bond ing tho South Side. It was built un der the supervision of tho State En glnnor's office but always was tho cause of great dissatisfaction on ac count of being narrow. Tho tate En gineer has been sent for and as soon as ho arrives, somo definite plan will bo formed for repairing or replacing the bridge as soon as possible. :o: BOY SCOUTS WERE" TO START ON CLEAN-UP INSPECTION (YESTERDAY. Yesterday the Boy Scouts wero to atart on tho Second Annual Clean-Up 'inspection o the homes In North Platto. Each year tho Chamber of Commorco has 100 signs print ed and theeo are distributed by the Boy Scouts to the homes in the cltv which are cleaned' and mowed to the satikfactiohot r the; iijspectoijB.
