west of this city, died Tucsdaw after
being sick but a short time Her death

port made by Ira L. Dare, Secretary of
tho North Platto Chamber of Com
merce, to tho membership of the
Chamber at tho banquet held Tuesday,
March 22:
"Tho Chamber of Commerce, In Jan
uary, assisted In tho organization of
tho Lincoln County Farm Uurcau. 'Men
from this organization took an ac'tlvo
part in getting tho movement under
way and then dropped out ns was
proper. r
In tho organization of tho Pure Bred
Llvo Stock Association in January,
tho Chamber of Commerce gave ma
terial assistance. Our vice-president,
Mr. Romigh, was selected nB ono of" tho
committee to secure plans for tho
pavilion nnd other members havo giv
en valuable help. Tho Chamber will
help entertain tho 100 or more pros
pective buyers who will attend tho
first salo of pure bred livestock which
will bo held noxt month.
Tho Chamber of Commerce has pre
pared a bill which will Increase the
maximum amount of bonds which tho
city can voto for wntor purposes from
$150,000 to $250,000. This bill has
passed tho Sonato and Is certain to
pass tho House and becomo a law.
A commlttco from the Chamber of
Commerce appeared beforo tho City
Council and urged that body to tako
nctlon on tho proposed drainage sys
tem to tako caro of the surface water
which Hoods tho city. A part of the
plan hns been adopted and bids ' arc
now being advertised for tho con
struction of some of tho proposed sys
tem. Alter considerable correspondence
with tho Union Pacific officials', the
company is now building a loading
chute at tho old stock yards for tho
use of hog and cnttlo dealers. It is
needed by stock exhibitors and by
doalers. -
Mon from the Chamber of Commcrco
nttonded tho meeting of tho dairymen
this month nnd the Secretary was
appointed ns a mombcr of the commit
too to work toward'tho organization of
a dairymen s association and the np
pointmont of a milk Inspector for tho
city ot North Platte.
Directors of tho Chamber ot Com
morco nppeared beforo tho City Coun
cil and secured leave from thaMiody
to change tho city damn grounds from
tho west sido of tho North river bridge
to tho east side with a view of pro
tecting tho rlvor bank which has
washed away at least forty feet pf
earth within tho past 20 yoars. This
action win dono In conjunction with
tho City Pnrk Commission.
Tho organization has worked with
Roprosontatlvo Davis to sccuro a State
Fish Hatchery for western fMobroskn
and tho bill appropriating $10,000 as a
start on the project will probably pass
th" legislature soon. Tho hatchery Is
to be located in elthor Lincoln or Gar-
don Countlos with tho chances in favor
of its location near North Platto.
W. E. Shumnn was sont to Lincoln
as a roprosontatlvo of the Chamber of
Commorco and lie in co-operntion with
Al. E. Crosby. City Attorney of North
Plutte, appoaretl boforo tho Committee
c'liitfldering tho bill which placed the
legulatlon of privately owned public
utilities in tho hands of tho Railway
Commission Instead of the City Coun
cil. Tho bill was killed in the com
mittee.
Tho Chamber of Conimerco has np
propriatcd $150 to tho Poultry Assocl
atlon for its annual midwinter oxhlblJ
tloii. It showed its appreciation of the
commercial travelers who mnko North
Pla'te their headquarters by giving
thtm li banquet last month. It has
already niado extensive plans for holn
Ing to entertain tho Stato Convention
of the Ordor of tho Eastern Star which
