fjut Historical BoifWR Wat rikme. nilRTY-SIXTH YEAR. MOUTH PLATTE, NEB., DEG1MHER 3, 1920. No. 94 GAS MEETING SATURDAY EVE ITKSHArs .UKUTLNU J)II) NOT SKTTLK TUB (2 AS MATT I! It FOlt Till: LADIKS. Below wo publish a communication which is tho ofticinl call for n Mass Meeting nt tho Franklin Auditorium, for Saturday night to discuss tho re quest of the North Platto Light & I'owor Co. to ralso tho rates on gas. We understand this meeting has been arranged by the women and tho public Is invited to come and hear tho dis cussion. Hero is tho letter: Editor "Tribune:" Some women listen as well as talk, and somo of us remember having of ten heard something to this effect; that if a contract is changed or not lived up to by one sldo or the other it is invalidated. Wo think this is the correct word, and wo almost think wo know what this word means Also wo rcmembor hearing onco or twico that in a building contract with specifications, if even a door or win dow should bo changed the contract lest its legal importance. It seems to many of us tho obvious ly tho PUDLIC phaso of It was started by tho Electric Light and Gas Com pany, not nearly all tho dissatisfac tion with tho franchise contract, and the fulfilling of such contract lies with tho company. It has long been claimed that citi zens entitled to such services have bifii denied them, and tho quality of gas especially has been tho subject ol many agitated conversations. Yet theso citizens have been abld iEg by their side of the contract, and does anyone suppose that when the company spent so much tlmo and ex penso to get the twenty-flve year con tract accepted by tho city it did not feel certain it could hold the city to its side of the contract? Thcreforo the women in mass meet ins. expect to ask some questions, possibly like theso: Axe not both sides in a contract ually bound? Is not "service" or "value received" r e back-bono of any contract? Whflj power has a council to JurkIc with a contract the city Ib a party too, to fRvor the other party? In fact If every body is dissatisfied with the twonty-llvo yoar contract, may we not possibly by mutual con sent and the aid of tho council "scrap" it entirely and open up tho subject a new to tho electorate of tho city? Tho citizens at least would like nome service adoquntc to the nootla of a city of 10,000 Inhabitants that wouli! like to grow some more If nllowod to Come SATURDAY NIGHT nt eight o'clock to Tho Franklin Auditorium YOU arc Interested.
