Oct. 27, 1920. TO THE VOTERS OP THE 25TII SENATORIAL DISTRICT. My attention has been called to the folct that some who have had personal differences with mo aro again indulg ing in their usual roar-back methods on tho cvo of this election. I refer to tho vicious false article that appeared in last week's issuo of tho non-partisan league paper. Tho fact that tho article was unsigned places tho stamp of falsehood upon it. It was false, and the Editor or their paper knew It. Ho knows that ninety percent of tho stock of the Higglns Packing Company is owned by farmers; that ten of tho fifteen members of its Hoard of Directors aro farmers; that I was elected Pres ident by tho farmer 'members of that Board; thai it Is practically an Inde pendent co-operativo farmer's com pany struggling against tho big pack ers. That Editor knows that ho re fused to buy meats for his Btoro hero in North Platte from our farmers packing company but buys from Armour. My record shows that I favored and worked for all of tho co operative farm legislation passed by tho last legislature, and that I wrote tho amendment to tho law that permit ted tho farmers organizations to havo u seat in tho Omaha Grain Exchange, and that I fought for this bill and helped its passage by tho Senate a gainst tho fight of tho largo grain interests. My investments aro largely In west ern Nebraska real estate, and tho success of the farmers means my suc cess. My record in tho Nobraska legislature is an opon book. The troublo with tho people who mako tho attack comes bocauso I do not sub scribe to tho socialist and communist doctrines of Mr. Townley as a cure all for tho present dishonesty in dis tribution, and bocauso I refuso to placo my resignation as Senator in tho hands of that machine to file with tho Socrotary of Stato if I should not voto tho way tho machlno desiros. Tha t Is ono of tho require ments of tho non-partisan loaguo. Tho resignation of its can didates aro in tho hands of Its mac hlno. Tho sfatemont that our company re fuses to buy from tho Farmer's Union is falso. Wo aro buying both produco and stock. During tho past three months Tho Higglns Packing Co. has bought eggs aggregating $4600 from tho Farmer's Union and live stock as lato as Tuesday of this week. If I represent this District in tho next Senato I will vote on every ques tion In accordance with what my conscience tells me is for tho best In terests of western Nobraska, and no organization will havo a club ovor my head in tho form of a resignation to bo filed tho miuuto I fail to oboy the orders of tho caucus of leaders, not membors of tho legislature, hold tho night before. Such a system of class legislation is damnnblo amd un American. It strikes at tho founda tion principles underlying American institutions. If wo pormittod it tho stablo principals established by tho Pilgrims in 1G20 will bo destroyed, and we will ho fast going tho road traveled by tho Greeks and the Ro mans.
