Applications o bo Received Friday
and Saturday.
An officer and a flold clerk of the
United States Army will bo at the local
Ilecruiting Headquarters In the Fed
eral building on Friday and Satur
day of this week to receive applica
tions for the Victory Medals. Officers
and enlisted men, Army nurses and
field cjorks are entitled to them upon
authority of Congress. The Secretary
of War is distributing these medals to
those who were In the army during
the war whethor they went overseas
or not. I
During the Spring of 1918, while ;
hostilities wore still at their height
the different allied and associated na
tions agreed to adapt a medal which
would be the same for all to commem
orate the great war. In order to carry
this plan Into execution an interallied
commission mot In Paris after tho
armistice. The commission found it
was impractical to adhere to tho o
riginal plan. It was decided, however,
to have an identical ribbon, and allow
each country to design its ovn medal
according to tho general specifications
which wore drawn up by the com
mission. The ribbon Is a double rain
bow, having the red In tho center and
with a white thread on each edge. It
symbolizes the dawn of a now era of
calm after the storm.
The American Commission adopted
medal on one side of which Is a
winged victory standing full length
and full face, and on the other side
appears the words "Tho Great War
for Civilization" and tho names of the
countries on the Allied side. A clasp
is ,glven for each major engagement
participated in and another clasp for
each country in which he saw ser
vice. All service men

To Mark Lincoln Hlghwny.
At the meeting of the Chamber of
Commerce last Tuesday evening
Chairmau Dixon was instructed to
employ a man to mark the Lincoln
Highway from North Platte east as
far as Maxwell and west as far as
Hershoy. This will bo done in the
near future and it will be a much
needed improvement according to tho
tourists. The highway has been
marked before but tho signs have been
destroyed in some places and have
