Davis, re publican candidate for rjprosentntlvo In this district, from IS. R. Purcell. of Broken Bow. It's such a good en dorsement that we have asked Mr. Da vIr' permission to publish It. The writer of the letter which follows served In tho last session of the legis lature from Custer county and is a 'member of The Nebranlta State Board 'of Agriculture and president of the 'Nebraska Press Association. Broken Bow, Nebr. March 27, 1920. Hon. E. S. Davis North Platte, Nebr. Dear Mr. Davis: I am gratified to learn that you havo filed for rsnomlnatlon for rep resentative from the sixty-eighth dis trict. I kept in touch with you work during the lust legislature and I feel that you were one of the active and also ono of the very able members of tho house. I am, as you know, a member of the State Board of Agri culture, and I am Intensoly Interested In the welfare of tho agricultural and stock intorosta of Nebraska. I know that you gave hearty support to the measures which were of benefit to tho farmers and stockmon of Nebraska, and that you were alert regarding leg islation effecting your section of the state. This Is the reason I hope the voters of your district will give you the endorsement that I know you havo honestly earned. Tho fact that you aro not a member of the same political party that I am should cut no figure when we think along legislative lines. I havo learned that tho people of my district did not send mo to Lincoln solely because I was a democrat and they should not sond you there simply because you aro a republican. The representative Is of value to people who deslro honest legislation by reason of -bis ability and Integrity, and not becnuso of tho party, with which he affiliates. , You have measured up to the full standard, and I nm suro that you havo tho confidence of all members of tho last session. loth republican and democratic. Tho oxporlenco you gain ed In tho last session would be of valuo to you and your district In tho next session, should you again be choson. I Wishing you success, I am, Yours truly, i E. R. PURCELL. Anrll 14th. 1920 TO THE VOTERS OF THE 25th SENATORIAL DISTRICT: My attention has Just been called to an eleventh hour attack being made on me by the Non-partisan League thru the columns of tho North Platte Telegraph. Scurrilous attacks upon reputable citizens do not ordinarily call for attention. I have lived In this community from boyhood and by honorable upright methods have at tained my present position. My pa record against dishonest corporato control Is clear. I never have attacki-d and never will attempt to Interfere wltli legitimate bu.-.lneh, .liclhei ',i be handled by a corporation or n private Individual. If every person who lias invested his earnings in n oompany, is dishonest, then I plead guilty of belonging to that class. While I am president of the Higgin Packing Company. it is a farmer's organzation In which 90 of tho stock is owned by Nebraska farmers and stock men and 11 of tho 15 members of tho board of directors aro actual farmors. It is sn Independent far mers' co-operative concern for the purpose of protecting tho farmers' In terests. I was induced to accept the position of President to assist In mak lug it a success. Last winter, when our Senate Coniinltteo was lnvostlgat Ing my bill to regulate tho stock yards and packing houses, the question of my pressing such a bill while an of ficer In a packing company, wus rot ed and I told the Senate Comlttee that this was an honest Independent com pany and wo were willing to bo regu lated, and we wanted the trust organ izations regulated. I am on tho board of directors of the Fidelity Reserve Company, n North Platte Mutual Life Insurance Institution. There are no stock hold ers, and all dividends go to tho policy holders and all moneys are Invested In Western Nebraska instead ofbe!ng sent to Now York. The farmers and business men who are policy holders aro the people benoflted by my efforts. I am now working on a plan for the organization of a public Improve ment district for the development of water power on the Blrdwood Creek. It Is planned to Issue bonds upon the District, construct, the power plant, and have tho peoplo own the plant and thus furnish olecrtic power to our citizens at cost. In North Platte we are paying more than twice as much for electric power as the peoplo of Omaha pay for the same service. This prevents manufacturing enterprises from coming hero. If the people them solves will build this power plant, under the law which I framed we will bo able to get electric power for less than 3 cents per kilo watt whoro wo are now paying 12 cents, and wo can get electricity for manufacturing pur poses for less than 1 cent per kilo watt. In the last legislature I fully sup ported tho farmers program." I wrote the amendment in the Senate that porniitted tho fanpors to have a seat on the Omaha Grain Exchange. Either one of these planters can be equipped with the fertilizer attachment, which can be put in place withput any re building or changes on the frame of the planter. When so equipped, these plant ers will put fertilizer cilher above or below the seed, whichever is desired. From 200 to 3400 pounds per acre can be handled. There are many other good features on this planter that ve would like to show you, such as the channel steel frame un usually durable; spring-pressure furrow openers and adjustable disc coverers regu lated by one lever; and coulter attach ment, when desired, to cut trash. Be sure to see us the next time you come to town. Call early so that this acason'3 potato crop may get the advantage of our machines. Potato Planters Cutters Diggers LEYPOLOT - PENNINGTON CO Local Agents NORTH PLATTE, NEBRASKA supported tho bill that legalized co operative farmers organizations. I wrote the bill to create a trado coin mission to handle the profiteering. Tills bill was passed in tho Senate but defeated in tho House. I introduced and urged the passage of bills to llcpn.io and regulate stock yards and packing houses. - If the above record is in the inter ests of dishonest corporations and not in tho Interests of tho people, then 1 havo not served the people, but If this record is such as the people de slred mo to make, then tho dishonest attack upon me is not justified. I have served the people at a heavy loss in time and money and have done so be cause many ot tho peoplo felt that I was in a position to accomplish some- i thing for this district. My resigna ! tion is not in ''tho hands of a non- rosidont organization. If I am re elected to tho Senate 1 will continue my, past courso and give tho people the best servico that I can.
