Residents of Brady and those liv ing north of that town presented a petition to the county commissioners yesterday asking that tho road leading from Brady, to Arnold be declarded a state aid road. This is a road upon which there is said to be much travel, and would furnish the people of tho Arnold section with a better outlet to the Union Pacific: J. It. White, of Sutherland, wh6 was in town yestorday, said that beet glowers in Lincoln county wore standing firm In their demand for higher prices, and that not a singlp acre will bo contracted by tho growers unless their demands aro acceded to by tho sugar companies. A few grow ers around Sarben, who had made contracts before tho Lincoln1 and Keith counties' association was form ed, havo notiilcd the, company of their intention to cancel tho contracts. Tho demand of tho growors is for a minimum price and -a sliding scale based on sugar prices at tho eastorn seaboard; or they will sign up acreage contracts with the price blank and al low tho federal government to mini a tho price. Tho conditions which prevail In Lincoln county aro the same in the Scotts Bluff country and In Colorndo If tho sugar companies do not com ply with the demands no bcots will bo grown. While tho companies have so far re fused to consider the demands inado by tho growors, and have offered no substitute agreements it Is expected that some move by tho companies will be mado within the noxt week.
