While hating at the roller rink Mrs I). C. Bloom, of Ouslln. A young lady arrived from tlio cast, took a homestead ton miles out from town, orected a sody and had a man broak out ton acres. John Neory sold tlio alley lot nov cdvored by the Waltemath building and tho smnll brick building thereon to Lizzlo Porry for $7,000, and then purchnscd tho lot and framo building whore the First Nntlonal now stands for $6,500. In a saloon fight a luilf dozen men woro badly, battered up and W. II, Tuckor, ownor of tho saloon drew his gun and drove out tho lighters. A Tmilceman, who was an innocont by stander was hit on the head with a cuspidor and for a timo It was question as to whothor ho would live. A meeting was hold for the purpose of securing a now normal school that tho state proposod to establish. Isaac Dillon offered to soli the Barton liouso, now occupied by tho Waltemath Lum ber Co., und ten acres of ground for $15,000. Tho state apportionment of state school monoy gave Lincoln county $840 for tho half year. At that time thero woro but fourteen school dis tricts in tho county and tho number of children of school ago was 10G4, of whom 719 woro in tlio North Platte district. Workmen woro stringing wires for tho Sporry olectre light plant, in which T. J. Foley and others woro In torosted. It was promosod to light tho strocsts and store buildings but not residences. Hall precinct was created by the county commissioners, and was named for A. U. Hall, ono of tho oldest set tlors north of tho rlvor. It embraced tho territory from a point nine miles northeast of tho city, to a point one mllo west of the Nichols station and nortli to tho county line, an aroa eighteen by twenty miles.
