FOREIGN COMPANIES WILL
BUILD THIS YEAR
It should bo a source of gratifica
tion to tho peoplo of North Platte to
know threo forolgn corporations two
of which arc among tho largost In the
country have Bolected this city as a
point to mnko pormanont improve
ments aud luvostmouts. Wo allude to
tho Standard Oil Co., tho Nebraska
Tolophono Co. and tho Pacific Fruit
Expross Co. That theso three com
panies have solected North Platte
moans more to tho town than thfe in
vestment of tholr capital; it means
that through tholr cholco of location
other onterprlses will be inlluenced to
come to North Platte.
While the plans of tho Nebraska
Sltandnrd Oil Co. are not yet ready to
be fully divulged, It can be stnted
that the company will this year Im
prove tho property at the corner of
Sixth nnd Locust which was pur
chased u number of months ago and
that their total investment In North
Plntte will exceed one hundred thous
nnd dollars and bring to this city n
score of employos.
It Is tho Intention of tho Nebraska
Tolophono Co. to build this year on
tho Fifth street lot which was pur
chased of Airs. Sarah Bangs. Not
only will a very substantial building
bo erected, but tho entire office
equipment will bo replaced. This will
mjean an investment all told of be
tween $50,000 and $76,000. The forco
of employos here will bo somewhat
augmented.
The Pacific Fruit Express Co. will
begin within tho next sixty days tho
construction of nn artificial Ice plant
having a capacity of three hundred
and seventyfive tons each twenty-four
hours. Tho ice making machinery
will bo in duplicate, so that should
anything occur to disable one unit, the
other unit will bo in oporatlon. One
unit which lias been In uso In Roso
ville, Cal., will be brought to North
Platte.
From the above It can be Inferred
that tho y'.ear 1920 augers well for
North Platte, and that our rapid
progress toward a city of 25,000 will
not be halted for at least another
year and probably not for a number
of years.
