An effort is going to bo made to ex tend tho membership of tho local American Legion to every veteran of tho world war who served In either tho army, navy, marlno corps, or as a Rod Cross nurso during tho war. While tho now order temporarily puts soma pcoplo out of bustnoss and disrupts tho business of all others, tho regulations have been accepted lu most Instances with good grace, and all are uniting in complying with tho order. With tho conservation order from Omaha came also tho information that North Platto would be limited to two cars of coal per day. This Is less, than ono-half tho amount nsked for by the fuel committee aftor It had made what was considered an Intelligent survey ot the needs of North Platto nnd the tributary, trade territory. With but two cars per day to draw upon, it is prob- blo that at times the local committee will bo out of coal, oven though but COO pounds bo Issued to each appli cant It is therefore apparent that each fuel user must conserve coal to tho greatest 'possible extent if wo are to avert positive suffering. It was argued that by such a dralnago systom tho water lovel surrounding North Platte would bo lowered, and that It would eradicate tho possibility of water In basements during rainy seasons, or at other times for that mattor, and that tho drainage would tako caro of tho Howl wntors that enter tho city from tho west Should tho city bo Incorporated Into tho district, tho property benefitted would sharo tn tho cost of construc tion. It was pointed out by sovoral speakers that the solution of bettor and bigger crops in tho valley was ob tainable by drnlnnge, and that in nil Irrigated sections drainage was necos sary to obtain tho best results. Tlio meeting went on record as favoring a comprehensive drainage system for tho valley.
