ALL COAL MUST HE ORDERED THROUGH COMMITTEE Tho coal committee appointed by the city council Tuesday evening, consist ing of J. V. Romigh, J. C Wilson nnd Fred J. Dlenor, opened an office In the Romigh garago early Wednesday fore noon. An Investigation -of tho avail able supply of coal was at onco mado and tho result was somewhat alarm ing. Tho supply consisted of twonty flve tons of slack available at tho wat er plant, about fifteen tons of coke and two tohs of anthracite, certainly a meagro supply for tho committee to begin business on. Tho opening of tho office soon became known and bo fore ten o'clock applicants began to appear, and throughout tho day, tho committee was kept busy, a total of ninety-llvo orders being used during the day. Tho quality of tho stock on hand was not altogether satisfactory to the applicants, but realizing that It was slack, coke, anthraclto or none, tho applicants accepted such as they could get and woro on the whole thank ful. Only BOO pounds woro allotted to each applicant. During Wednesday J. V. Romigh, of tho committee, got In touch with Genl. Manager Jeffers, of tho Union Pacific, and with tho state federal fuel administrator. To these Mr. Romigh stated the actual condi tion of the conl situation In North Platte, with tho result that throo cars of coal wero ordered placed at tho disposal of the North Platto commit tee. These cars wero "sot" on tho, tracks at throo of tho coal yards Wed the commltteo began Issuing orders nosday night and yostorday morning for this coal In 1000 pound lots. In tnlklng tho situation over with the federal authorities and with Mr. Jef fers, tho commltteo stated thnt tho present needs of North Platte would not bo loss than two cars a day, nnd as tho stocks In tho hands of house holders becamo exhausted this need would Increase. It Is estimated that tho coal consumption In North Platto nnd tributary section for household purposes will avorago closo to 100 tons a day. This does not lncludo tho needs of business buildings nor industrial plants. Tho commltteo has no assuranco that It will havo two cars a day at Its disposal, and whilo tho supply yos torday was sufficient to meet the de mands, It Is not, certain that such will bo true today, tomorrow or next week -::o: Hound Over Win.
