the guest of Mrs. Frank' McGovern

short visit with relatives in Grand
Island while enroute to her home at
Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Von Goetz, of
Portland, Ore., who came east ten
days ago, and have- been visiting in
Omaha and at Garfield, arrived in
town Sunday night and will remain
until Thursday when they will leave
for Portland.

John Henry Fcdcrhoof, aged sov-enty-four
years arid six months, pass
ed away Friday afternoon at his homo
on cast Fifth street following n stroke
of paralysis suffered ten days" pre
viously. Tho funornl was held at," the
Masonic hall Sunday afternoon, con
ducted by tho Masonic fraternity1; of
Which he was a member. ,
John Federhoof had been a resident
of North Platte for thirty-four y'dars,
coming hero from Pennsylvania in
1885. For a year after his arrival he
acted as night clerk at tho Nebraska
House, then conducted by his brother
J.' C. Federhoof. Ho then purchased
the cigar and confectionery storo con
ducted by Claude Weingand on Front
btreet and until about four years "ago,
continued In thnt business. During
his business career he accumulated

This grading outfit will be moved

Open Down Town Office.
The Western Union Company opon
cd its down town office in the Wnlte
math building the latter part of last
week, and is now receiving and send
ing out messages from that location.
The work of installing the efficiency
station in the same building Is'' pro
gressing satisfactorily, but tho Work
will not be completed before August
first. By means-of this station trans
continental business will be greatly
expedited nnd a greater volume of bus
iness handled in shorter time. The
cost of Installing this office will ex
ceed twenty thousand dollars.

Swedish Lutheran Picnic.
The Swedish Lutheran people of
North Platte and tributary section
will hold a picnic at the city park
next Friday afternoon commencing at
two o'clock All members of that or
ganization as well as their friends
are invited to be present. During the
afternoon refreshments will bo sold.

Writing from his station on the
Rhine Sgt. Butler Miltonberger, who'
Is in the army of occupation' with the
Fourth Division, says that' their
equipment had all been checked In
preparatory to staratlng home on May
27, but that by Pershing's orders the
equipment .had been re-issuel and they
were ready to march upon Berlin at a
moment's notice. Butler, who has not
been sick a day while in service is
enjoying the beauties of tho Rhine
and has a daily swim therein which he
says is very much like the Platte hero.
Ho expected to start home ns soon as
the peace terms had b'cen signed.
Fred Rasmussen, Hershey's post
master and editor, was in town yes
terday afternoon, coming down on
the new No. 10 train and returning
on No. 7. "This new train makes a
fine service for Hershey people," said
Mr. Rasmussen. "We can now come
North Platte, transact our business
and get homo within four hours."
Sneaking of tho new court house Mr.
Rasmussen paid ho realized the need
of the building, recognized the need
of making Improvements during
these war reconstruction days In or
der to keep business up to the stand
ard, and is confident that there has
never been a time when tho people of
Lincoln county could so well afford
a new court house. He therefore fa
vors a new building.
