North -Platte engineers, firemen, con
ductors and brakomcn have been ad
vised of an increase In wages which it
is said will averago from $15 to $40
per month. This wage advance was
granted the early part of this week by
General Director Hines and effects ,
anout 400,000 men in both the freight
and passenger aervico and dates back
to January first. Circulars glvlngfl the
Increased rates have been received by
chairmen of the four brotherhoods,
but it has not yet been figured out Just
tho increase each employe will' re
ceive. It is known, however, that

four cents per mile, and as some of
the conductors running Into North
Platto make G.000 miles a month, it
can be seen that "they will receive
as high as $240 per month. This is an
increase of about $75 a month over the
pay prior to two years ago.
Included In the aggregate pay in
creases nllowed by the railroad ad
ministration to two million employes
is at the rate of $822,311,000 a year,
moro than $400i averago per man.
Thus tho total pay roll of tho Ameri
can railroad- administration has rais
ed to nearly $3,000,000,000 from a
basis of operation of $2,000,000,000 on
January 1, 1918, when the roads pass
ed into the government's hands.

federal and state aid road between
North Platte and Sutherland will be
opened tomorrow afternoon In tho
presence of State Engineer Johnston.
Deputy Roy Cochran and the county
commissioners.
Up to yesterday no bids had been
filed, but a number had examined tho
specifications and are exnected to
file their bids today or tomorrow fore
noon. ,
The contract calls for the construc
tion of a fraction over nineteen miles
of road.

Charley Lambert received a cable
gram Tuesday night from his son Burt
who is lieutenant commander on tho
transport "Matolka," stating that Jim
Lambert and Ira Simpson wero on
that vessel enrouto home. These two
boys were in Co. A, 128th Machine
Gun Co., in tho Thirty-fifth Division
They will reach Now York In about

Fay Not a "Ringer".
Dr. L. E. Vandiver, a former resi
dent of Chappell, assures the Tribune
that "Dynamite" Fay, who recently
nested Art Nellls in a wrestling match,
is not a "ringer", but has been a resi
dent of Chappell for several years,
where .he runs a cement gang. It was
through Dr. Vandiver that Fay came
Here to wrestle Nellls.
