Elder for ciarld Hoy Mehlmann for treasurer,, Horslioy Welch for wntor commissioner. , i The above In brief tells the story1 -of the city election hold Tuesday? tnn( election which was marked by tho strong light between Plzer und Stone for second place, by the majbr Ity received by Streitz, tho largest ever given a candidate for ninyor, and by the wonderful outpouring of wom en voters. Thoro was never a tlmo during the short cnmpalgn that thcro was any question of tho election of Mr. Streitz, for it was well known that ho was backed by itn efficiently organized force numerically strong and potently influential. As this was apparent to the supporters of both Plzer and Stone, neither of whom could be forced to withdraw, though many attempts were made, the con test between these two candidates be came a fight for second place. Both played the gamo of politics and for a week tho strength of each was pretty well balanced. One day tho Plzer forces would apparently show strong er than those of Stone, tho next day tho reverse would prove true, and .thus tho battle surged, Plzer finally fin ing out by besting Stone by thirty votes. Tho day was rainy, and it wns fear ed during the forenoon that tho army of women who favored Streitz might not reach tho polls. It was then that the telephones of tho Streitz committee got busy. "Get out to vote if is wet," was the advice, and from each phono came tho cheering reply: "indeed I will" and they did and Mr. Streitz wns tho benellciary of the votes of not less than five hundred women per haps a good many more. No nccurato acount of the women voting was kept, but in nt least two of tho wards there were more women voters than men. It is probnble that of tho 2102 votes that were cast fully one-half were by women. It was cer tainly a great day for "the girls;" it was their first opportunity to cast their ballot for a complete city ticket; they accepted tho privilege as a right that had long been denied them, they voted numerically strong, and each voted her preference with the convic tion that it was her duty as a good citizen to plnce the cross whoro she did, whether that cross was In front of the name of Streitz, Plzer, Stone or Lock. : :o: :- Loudon,, Mrs. Trotter assisting tho hostess. Still there havo beoh more than 1000 improve ments in this car since tho first one was built. Every time a chance was seen to make it better the improvement was made. No one has every criticized the Maxwell on the grounds 6f reliability.,; No ono can criticize it on tho grounds of good looks, for there have been 24 per cent Improvements in its appearance.
