Germany Xot Itopontnnt.
A correspondent writing from Ber
lin says:
I havo not found any wrlttcta or
spoken sign of repentance In Germany
and will go further and affirm that 90
per cent of the 'people with whom I
havo spoken, including all grades -of
opinion, deny that Germany has been
beaton.
Tho odd 10 por cent say that Qor--many
was starved out by tho block
ado, but would have been able to cdn
tlnuo had there been food enough.
This latter idea is exnroaaoil 'liv
Count von Itev'onti'ow,' who said In an'
Interview:
"Wo did not win, but we did not
lose."
Nevertheless, then is hardly a man
or woman I've spoken to who wants
to fight. But they want pcaco terms
softoned.
Porsonally I believe than an army
of 10,000 mon could not bo raised to
resume military operations.
Tho word ono hears most is "swind
led. ' The people think thoy havo been
cheated by their loaders, with 'promi
ses of military and submarino succes
ses and by constantly advertising tho
prospects of a revolution in France.
Tho Gorman press Is trying to sow
seeds of discord among tho allies.
Thoy print tho speeches of President
Wilson, Premier Clemonceau and

lines. "Clemenceau Against Wilson" Is a
favorite headline.
