Arthur Hubbard, who has been stationed at Camp Funston, has been home for a couple of days visiting the homo folks. Leonard Redmond, in sorvlce ovor soas, Is In a hospital receiving treat ment. Ray Peters, who was in the hospital at Camp Cody for eight months, dur ing which time he submitted to sever al operations, has been transferred to Camp McPhorson, near Altanta. Oa., Lee Bird, In an aviation camp In 'Texas writes that ho maae a cross country trip the other day and cover ed 120 miles In 117. minutes. He wlK make this trip every any for two weeks. "I have arrived safely overseas Burton Lambert." This was the in scription on a card received by The Tribuno yesterday. Lieut. Lambert is on a transport and this Is-his second or thrld trip across." Goo. N. Gibs writes from Camp Pike. Ark., where ho is In training for an officer, that he has thirty minutes a day which he can call his own, and in which to write letters. "They keep one everlastingly at it." says George. Claroiujo , Thomas., one of the colored boys sent from this city sever al weeks ago, has been appointed a ! corporal . He was a member of tho Homo Gards and tho drilling he re ceived was of material assistance to him when he reached camp. Chas. H. Crosby, son-in-law of P. H. McEvoy, received word Saturday that he had been appointed nrst lieu tenant in tho -''quartermasters' corps and was ordered to report at oneo at Newport News, Va. Mr. Crosby had a credit Df eighteen years In tho regu lar ermy, sevoral years of whi.'h was spent in the Philllpine Islands. "Jack" Carroll Is In receipt of letters from his brothers Sam and Will, both of whom are In service over there, the former In France, tho latter in Italy. Sam says he has been a guard at headquarters and at a hospital for somo time, but will soon bo relieved and sent to tho front. Ho is with Jay Smith and young Leonard Robinson, both of this city. Will is with an aviation corps and in a trip tho pilot of tho pCano lost his bearings, made a forced landing and damaged tho machine. Writing from Franco under date of August 19th, Fred Dick says he and Harry Tagador are tho only North Platto boys left In that particular camp, tho others being scattered aiong the lino. "These French enginemen," says Fred, "have some funny ideas of railroading. Yesterday wo had an engine equipped with air and I tried to get the French enginoman who rides around with us to use It, but ho pull ed out his pocket book and by notions made mo -understand that tho using of oil to run tho pump wa3 just llko throwing money away. It seems the French work on a bonus system which pays them for all tho oJC they save. It will drop from a wlro overhead,' and at the same time a searchlight will bo thrown upon It, and red lights will bp burned.
