THE COUNTY'S CONTRIBUTION
TO THE NATIONAL ARMY.
The Tribune has been froquontly
nuked: How many mon, sns Lincoln
county contributed to tho war? Un
fortunately thero is no way of ascer
taining the oxact number, for It Is not
known Just how many mon ovor thlr-.
ty-ono or under twenty-one liavo en
listed, or just bow many Lincoln
pounty men wore In Company E when
that organization was sent to Camp
Cody.
However, the number furnished by
tho county can approximately be giv
en. Prior to December 15th, tho dato
on which the first call was made, ono
hundred and ono men had been in
ducted Into scrvlco through tho local
board. Slnco December 15th and up to
yesterday tho quotas furnished under
the several calls aggregated three
hundred and one. In addition to those
twenty-five were released from army
service In order to Join the navy. Thl
makes a toW. of four hundred and
twenty-six men who have entored the
service through tho local board.N
To this should be added about fifty
Lincoln county men who went with
Company B, and not less than twenty
under ago or ovor ago that enlisted.
Tills would bring the total up to four
hundred and ninety-six. Tho estlmato
of the Company B men Is conservative
and the estimate" of tho under and
over age enlistments is under rather
than above tho actual number. It can
bo said with safety that today five
hundred Lincoln county boys aro
serving under the colors, and to this
number twenty-two more will be add
ed next week.
That we aro beginning to rather
keenly feel tho loss of this man-power
cannot bo questioned; in fact it la
very noticeable In North Platte as
well as In tho villages and precincts
at tho county, and as the days go by
and tho calls for mon continue tho
loss wif.1 be more perceptibly folt
. Major White, wl;o had been visiting
his parents, left Wednesday for Los
Angeles where he will enter the Unl-.
verslty of Southern California pcndling
a ci Into the medical reservo corps
for which hie application has been
accepted.
Thero will bo a Swedish Lutheran
meeting Monday evening at the
churph at eight o'clock.
