Though the Gormans havo used a
quarter of a million men during tho
past four days In the drive against tho
railroad cantor of Amiens tho French
lino has stdad llko a granite rock, and
tho enemy's attempts to break thrdugh '
have dismally failed. Tho resistance
of tho Fronch has boon remarkable, I
and though tho Germans havo sent I
wnvo aftor wavo of men against the '
lino, their gains havo beon Insignificant
but havo suffered a terrible loss of niairf
power, nio oncmy nas mined against
the allied lino three times the number,
of men on the lino, the French using
iuBt as few men as posslblo to keep
tho Gormans from breaking through..
Statements of Gorman prisoners
havo convinced French military critics
that tho roal ubjoctiro of tho great
German offensive was Paris, and that
so far from expecting checks which
would make Amiens tho goal of bloody
and mudeclslvo battles, tho Teutonic
high command sont Its forces forwnrd
propared for rapid advances In open1
warfare. These plans wero, however. .
badly upset, nnd after fifteen days!
fighting tho Germans have not opened
tho road to Paris, are not llkoly to
succeed, and have suffered a trem
endous loss of men. On tho front north
west of Toul, Friday nlRht, tho Ger
mans attempted two raids, but both
were roplused. American infantry
men went out of tholr trenches on the
socond occasion and chased the Ger
mans .from the Gorman first-lino'
trenches into tho support trenches. .

How Do Your
Sacrifices Compare
With These?
THE American boy who goes to war
gives up the position which means
so much to Kis future, or the littUT
business which has just begun to show
promise of success.
He severs home ties; gives up home comforts;
leaves behind parents, friends, wife or sweetheart.
He faces the probability of being obliged to
take up life anew when he returns; of losing all
the advantages whicli years of hard work have
won for him. "
1
He faces the possibility of coming back in
capacitated for earning a living, and of being
dependent upon his friends or upon charity.
He faces the possibility of never coming
home at all.
Facing these thing3, he goes to France to
fight for us who remain safely at home -and
when the 'moment 'comes for him to go over
the top he GOES!
-
What will he think, how will he
feel, if we complain because we
are asked to make a few sacri-.
fices for him sacrifices so insig- '
m'ficant when compared with his?
Show him that to invest in Liberty 4
Bonds is not a SACRIFICE
but a PRIVILEGE an appre
ciation of his sacrifice!
And When You Buy Buy!
