WALKER MUSIC CO.,
NORTH PLATTE, NEBRASKA.
In a communication received by The
Tribune, collector of Intornal revenue,
Geo. L. Loomls, unnounces that a
federal income tax officer will bo sent
into this county February 4th and will
bo hero until February 14th. Ho will
have his office in tho federal building
in this city and will bo thero every
day ready and willing to holp persons
subject to tho income tax mako out
their returns without any cost to
them for services.
How many income-tax payors will
there bo in Lincoln county? If you
can guess how many married persons,
living with wife or husband, will have
not incomes of $2,000 or over, and how
many unmarried persons will have net
incomes of $1,000 or over this year,
then you know. Tho collector of in
ternal rcvonuo estimates that there
will ho 600 taxpayers in this county.
Returns of Income for tho year 1917
must bo mado on forms provided for
tho purpose boforo March 1, 1918. Bc-
causo a good many people" don't under
stand tho law and won't know how to
mako out their returns, tho govern
ment is sending this oxpert to do it
for them. But tho duty is on the tnx
payor to mako himself known to the
government. If ho doesn't mako re
turn as required bctoro March 1st ho
may havo to pay a 'penalty ranging
from ?20 to $1,000, pay a fine or go to
Jail. So If you don't want to tako
chances on going to jail, you better
call on tho lncomo tax man. If you
are not sure about being subject to tho
tax, better ask him and mako sure
Whether you see tho income tax man
or not, you must mako return if sub
Ject to tax.
Of course, persons resident In other
counties may, if they want to, come
and see tho income tax man who will
bo at North Platto and also at Wallace
February 25th and 2Gth.
Tho collector suggests that every
body start figuring up now his income
and expenses so as to bo ready with
tho figures when tho expert arrives.
Expenses, however, don't mean family
expenses, money used to pay off tho
principal of a debt, new machinery,
buildings, or anything like that. They
mean what -you spend in making your
money, interest, taxes paid, hired
holp, amount paid for goods sold, seed,
stock bought for feeding, ront (except
your dwolling), etc. Income includes
about every dollar yow get.
