Thousands of Roman candles have
been provided, and will bo furnished
to those taking part In the parade
and by 'thorn flred. Hugo bonllres will
be used, cannons fired, and for a time
tho town will bo a lurid blaze.

Music will bo furnished by tho band
and a male quartette, anil short ad

R. enjoyed a most enthusiastic and
interesting session at the homo of Mrs.
Neville lact Friday with the following
program: Singing of "America," tho
Lord's Prayer; salute to the flag
minuitcs of last meeting and adoption
of local by-laws; Mrs. Hcgarty gave
a review of tho October and. November
D. A. R. magazines; Mrs. Neville a
reminiscenso of time spent in Wash
ington and Mt. Vernon; Mrs. Grimes
a description of the building and fur
nishings of the memorial continental
hall; roll call, a patriotic wish for tho
wife1 of tho governor-elect these
wishes could all have been expressed
..in the slogan, "On 'to Washington";
singing of tho national hymn. ' The
hostesses Mrs. Neville, Mrs. Wm. Rey
nolds, and Mrs. Chas. M. Reynolds
served a light lunch which added to
tho sociability and pleasure of the
occasion.

Law and Order Committee.
Following action taken In other Ne
braska towns, a law and order com
mittee consisting of one hundred bus
iness men and others of the city will
, bo appointed at a meeting soon to be
held. Tho object of this committee
will be to enforce the law now on the
statute book relating' to the handling
of liquor as well as the enforcement of
such law as the coining legislature may
, pass. The committee will also lend lt..
aid in tho enforcement of other laws
that may bo violated.

Rescues Womnn from Drowning
Joseph Kopf, a former North Platte
boy, now a member of the United
States coast guard at San Francisco,
last week rescued a woman from
drowning in the bay. The woman, wif0
. of tho captain of a schooner, was
- knocked overboard by a swinging
boom and wns sinking a third time
when seized by Kopf and kept afloat
until rescued by tho crow of the ship
from which sho fell. The husband of
tho woman presented Kopf with
handsome gold'nvat'ch. ?
About fifty Elks and nearly as many
' ladies attended tho Elks memorial scr
vice- Sunday afternoon, and for the
firstXtfme tho now ritualistic service
was used, which Is very Impressive
Solos were excellently rendered by
MisOramor and Paul Harrington and
a selection by the Elks' quartette was
'good,. Stamp's orchestra rendered
several selections very acceptably and

Mr. and Mrs. II. K. Peckham, of
Brady, wero visitors in town yester
day. Mr. Peckham, . iwho owns 1200

Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Rowley, who for
seve'ral years resided on tho Red Bank

of tho board of control, which has sup
ervision of tho state institutions, spent
yesterday in town visiting friends and

The annual foot ball team banquet
will bo hold in tho basement of tho
Christian church next Friday even
ing. The ladies of that church will
serve the supper.
