I doslrc to niako announcement of the producing rights of tho great American drama, "Tho Melting Pot," for Chautauqua audiences this season. No play over presented for the Chau tauqua has had such a strong enst of players. The parts in this play require tho serivces of tho most accomplished and experienced actors. Nearly all of the players engaged for this tiour havo played the same parts dvrlng tho long run of this play in tho largor cities. There are iten players In the cast." "The Melting Pot" is a great drama with an interesting story, but It is vastly moro than an entertaining pro duction. Mr. Zangwill symbolizes our land as tho melting pot of tho tworld. Into this crucible, beneath which burn tho (Ires of our political and social philosophy, refugees from all ports of tho earth, men and women oppressed by tho arbitrary dictum of crime and rollglon, aro poured, to bo fused and amalgamated into Ithe sterling gold of a broador, nobler humanity and a self governed nation. It Is a sound philos ophy and appeals to evory patriotic American citizen. "Tho Melting Pot" has proven t0 bo moro than tho favorite play of the time It had its great run in the critics; it is being called "Tho Great American Piny," and It will live. I want to urge this whole commun ity to see it at tho North Platte ChaHi tauqua. , CHARLES F. Resolution Adapted by the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce of North Platte, Nobraska, in special session at 1:30 o'oclck P. M., July 15th, called for the purpose of considering the Im portant matter hereinafter set forth. Whereas by order of the Honorable Secretary of the State Board of Irri gation of tho State of Nebraska all the irrigation ditches tuklng water out of North Platte, and the Platto rivors in Kolth and Lincoln counties, except ono havo been closed for tho purpose of supplying water to tho Kearney canal, and whereas, Tho headgates of said canals are from one hundred to one hundred fifty miles west of tho hoad gate of thd Kearnoy Canal, nnd while there is a good head of water passing the head gates of said canals so shut down and about 1000 second feet water Is pass ing tho North Platto bridge no wnter has as yet reached the headgato of the Kearney Canal, and whereas, It is not 'probable that sufficient water will reach the Kearney canal to be of any benefit to tho snme, and whereas, Tho crops under tho ditches so shut down are fast drying up for the need or wnter, nnd that the shutting down of said canals will result In a groat was'to of water from which no ono will receive any benefit. Tho retrial of Roy Roberts, charged with the Connot murder will probably bo had at tho November term of dis trict court , at least nrrangements to that end Iwil bo made. It Is not likely thnt the retrial will create as much Interest as did tho original trial, as 'tho evidence icf Iwitnesses will prob ably bo tho same, and it is not now known that any nditional evidence of noto can bo secured. The first trial of Roberts cost the county $1,800. Tho expense of tho re trial will probably be somewhat less. :o:: Elks Have Frolicsome Day. The first annual field day of the B. P. O.
