sorvlco of tho church for forty-four
years and n bishop for twonty-nlno
years. Ho visited this city on several
occasions during which ho administered
confirmation nt the local Catholic
church.
Born In Irolnnd, May 12, 184D, ho was
oductated In All Hallows, tho great mis
sionary college of tho Emernlrt Isle,
where ho was ordained in 1871. Tho fol
lowing year ho camo to tho United
States, and began his labors in Nash
ville, Tonn., under tho direction of tho
Into Archbishop Fcohan, of Chicago.
So notahlo was his nergy and zeal In
thnt community for fifteen years that ho
was selected September 25, 1887, bishop
of tho now dloceso of Concordln, Kan.,
and was consecrated In Nashville, No
vember 30, 1887.
Three years later, tho see of Omaha
becoming vncant, Bishop Scannoll wns
transferred to this dloceso nnd was In
stalled In the St. Phllomcna's cnthedrnl,
