COMING EVENTS.
LTHOUGII ninny of tho now spring
blouses nnd dresses are mado with
high collars, there aro many of them
that show an' open throat. Practical
ly every collar Is high at the back and
sides, but at least half of them are
"V" shaped In front, or may be worn
either open or closed.
Two styles appear to bo in tho run
ning for first place for warm weather.
They are the collar of laco or sheer
embroidery like that shown In tho
picture, or tho high fitted collar of net
or organdie which setB close about tho
neck, worn with a second collar which
finishes tho bodice at tho back and
aides and is wired to stand away from
tho neck and to turn over.
There is almost no end to the num
ber of designs in which theso fancy
collars are made. Many of them have
cuffs to match and aro suited to the
blouse qt coat.
A narrow frill of laco or net about
the throat attached to a band of vel
vet or satin ribbon Is worn with waists
having Tound necks. This is becom
ing to those with long and slender
figures who can wear tho high closely
fitting collars also. But ior the short
neck and full throat tho "V" shaped
opening at the front Is altogether best.
It lengthens the nock in appearance.
A very smart and now collar is made
or sheer organdie and is shaped to
fit closely about the neck. At tho top
Empire Night Dress,
THOSE undermusllns in which nar
row crocheted edgings or tat
tings aro used with a little sheer em
broidery aro very effectively mado up
after the samo patterns as those" In
which hand-mado cluny lace is used.
All theso trimmings aro equally dura
ble and will outlast almost any of the
sheer fabrics which aro favored for
tho body of theso garments. If sowed
In by hand they will not bo difficult
to transfer to a second term of serv
ico in new material.
In the night dress shown In tho pic
ture very narrow hand-mado jluny
laco In nn insertion and edging nro
used with an embroidery Insertion
about two incheB whe. Thi3 insertion
is a flno Swiss pnttorn having tiny
singlo blossoms scattered over the
sheerest of batiste.
Three strips of this embroidery sot
together with tho laco insertion form
tho small yoke nt tho front, which is
niado up of ono short pleco across tho
front and ono nt each side, extending
to tho shoulder seam. Tho yoko Is
outlined with tho insertion, which
serves to Join It to tho material of tho
gown. Tho neck Is finished with a
narrow edging of cluny.
Tho short, gathered etnplro sleeves
nro finished with a band of embroid
ery joined to thorn by tho cluny inser
tion nnd edged with laco llko that
nbout tho neck.
Tho short emplro waist of tho gown
is set on to tho skirt, which Is simply
a narrow, 'wired flange of organdio
stands out at right angles to tho band,
concealing tho throat and neck. It Is
not a particularly comfortable-looking
pleco of neckwear, but will 'cover up
a multitude of defectB, auch aa
wrinkles or sagging muscles.
The Parasol Veil.
Another novelty of note is tho so
called parasol veil. This is a huge
circular veil thrown over tho hat so
that it falls in equal ripples on all
sides. A border of ribbon combined
with velvet dots renders thiB creation
a striking one.
Still another new idea Is featured In
a fancy mesh veiling with a sand-col
ored kid flower applied, so that It
would appear over thq mouth when
tho veiling is adjusted. This style is
strongly suggestive of tho old time
vanity veil.
Lemon instead of Soap.
By taking a lemon and cutting it In
two nnd squeezing the juice into tho
dishwater no soap Is needed. The
lemon will cut all grease and in a
fow days' time tho silver, such as
knives, forks and spoons, will become
bright as now. All dark spots will
also disappear fcom pltcherB and
cups. Use the lemon over and over
again.
Handmade Trimming
two straight lengths of the material,
with a strong beading of narrow em
broidery.
The over-present lingerie ribbon is
threaded through tho beading at the
waist and reappears in tho edging at
tho neck and sleeves. It is tied in
simple bows witli long loops.
Except for tho long foiled seams at
tho sldo, the work on a gown of this
kind is much more elegant If done by
hand. Even tho panels of set-In em
broidery that form tho yoko will not
tako a great deal of time nnd nre
moro elegant than machlno work.

Seaver Fur Only for Young Women
Beaver fur grows more and more
fashionable and who would have
dreamed, a year ago, of wearing
beaver again? The soft, dainty pelt
Is used for collarettes and sleeve edg
ings on frocks of pussy willow silk
nnd on tailored frocks of whlto cloth.
Sometimes a broad band of beaver
borders a ripplo tunic, but, of course,
this lavish trimming is exceedingly
expensive. Tho older women should
fight rather shy of beaver, however,
for its delicato fawn color Is becom
ing only to fresh, youthful complex
ions. 1
