Albort Benkosky, twenty-ono year
old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Ben
kosky, of this city, was fatally In
jured In a grain elevator at Wollfleot
about flvo o'clock last ovenlng and his
spirit took its lllght about two hours
later. Particulars of tho accident ore
not obtainable at this writing, but ho
was caught In some way in tho ma
ichlncjry of tho elevator. Mr. and
Mrs. Benkosky left for Wcllflcet this
morning.

TJio first annual banquet of St. Pat
rick's Assembly Fourth Degree
Knlghtsof Columbus, was held last
eveniny at tho Masonic hall and was
roporMl a great success. Plates were
laid or twenty-six and a delicious
supper was served by Mrs. James
Hart, after which toasts were given.
P. J. McGovorn presided as toast
master after tho Bupper was out of
tho way and Father McDaid, F. J.
Dorram and C. J. Pass responded to
toasts. Following this dancing and
cards woro indulged in until a late
hour. Miss Hannah Kcllher and Geo.
Ell won tho prizes in cards. All pres
ent report a delightful ovening.

The test will be made in the new Show Room of the

Charles Knox, who sovoral weeks
ago stolo a car from Frank England,
who lives' southwest of town, and loft
for parts unknown, has been located
but at last report had not been placed
under arrest. The car, liowevor, la
being held nt Junction City, Kan.,
awaiting Its ownor.
Knox's whereabouts becanio known
last evening when Sheriff Salisbury
revolved a wlro from a garago at
Junction City asking whether a Bulck
car of a certain minibpr belonged In
North Platte. In a telephone com
munication it was learned that Knox
attempted to sell tho car, claiming
he had purchased it in Now York
City. His actions wcro suspicious and
tho garago man wired tho Bulck fac
tory asking to what point tills cer
tain numbered car had been shipped
and tho reply stated North Platte.
Sheriff Salisbury, asked that Knox
bo looked up and placed under ar
rest. ,
Joe Larson Home.
Joo Larson arrived; In tho city lost
ovening nfter an absence of sovoral
months on account of sickness nnd an
operation. Ho is looking very well
and stated that ho was glad to return
to North Platte. Ho was In Omaha at
a hospital for a number of weeks and
for the past several weeks has been
visiting his parents at St. Paul, Neb.

Court Citizens May Raise Fund.
In tho district court yesterday af
ternoon Judgo Crimes over-ruled tho
motion filed by Attorney Keofo for a
ro-trial of tho Roberts caso. Folowlng
this ruling tho Judgo sentenced Rob
erts to tho death chair on Friday,
Juno 4th, in nccordanco with tho death
penalty brought in by tho Jury before
which the case was tried.
Roberts stood calmly boforo tho
Judge when sentence was Imposed,
and betrayed no fear. After sentence
ho reiterated to his attorney tho state
ment that tho ovldonco ho gnvo on
tho stand was tho truth.
This is tho first timo tlio death pen
alty has becL imposed In Lincoln
county, and the first timo that Judgo
Grimes in his nineteen yenrs on tho
bench' has sentenced any ono to death,
and it was probably a trying task for
him
Roberts is penniless and nil his
relatives aro poor, and they are not
in position to take tho caso to tho
supremo court on error. Tho cost of
carrying tho caso to tho higher court
would bo about ?300 over half of
whicli would bo tho fee of making a
transcript of tho evidence.
Attornoy Kcefo fools confident that
thoro is sufficient error to cause tho
supreme court to remand the. caso for
re-trial, and in this ho is uphold by
several othe'r attorneys convcrsant
with the caso.
A number of North Platte people,
following tho verdict passed on Rob
orts, announced that they stood ready
to ralso a purso to carry tho caso to
tho supreme court. Whether they
aro now so Inclined is net known, but
if so they will, need soon to declare
themselves.
Will Waltemath returned last even
ing from Omaha, where ho spent a
few days on business matters.
A dancing party will be held this
evening at tho Masonic hall by Cor
bin Jones and Ernest Rlnckcr. Mu

Rev. E. T. Mathison of Chicago is

Dean and Mrs. J. J. Bowker. Ho will
