Roy Roberta was brought to tills city Tuesday evening from Lincoln by Sheriff Salisbury and Is n6w in tho county Jail where he, will await trial for tho murder of Vernon Connett. Ills trial is. sot In tho district court for January 26th, Tuesday of next weekf Roberts was brought hero In tho night and overy precaution was taken to keep tho news away. A demonstra tion of feeling was fared by tlio pf flccrs and for this reason tho news of his nrrivnl was kept a secret with in tho sheriff's ofllce. He was brought horo handcuffed that ho might bo given no chanco for escape as tha officers realize that ho Is only wait ing opportunity to attempt a getaway. Ho seemingly realizes that ho is a doomed man and his spirit, which was so evident provious to his confession. Is broken. Roberts 1b being kept in a lone cell in tho Jail so that no one will be given opportunity to bco him. His trial will open Tuesday but It will take prob ably several days to get a Jury and tho trial will take up tho greater part of next week. When called upon by a reporter yosterday afternoon Roberts refused to discuss tho case against him. Ho sits in his cell alone and has llttlo to say ovon to tho other prisoners who can get within speaking distance of him. Ho has engaged Attorney Jas. T. Keefo of this city for legal advice and seemingly Intends keeping silent until tho trial comes off. Charles Clayton is also being held at tho Jail. Ho is merely awaiting tho trial of RobertB at which ho will bo one of tho chief witnesses. No charges havo been filed against him and none will be filed, presumably, until after tho trial of Roberts, unless ho shoulq get restless and attempt to get out. County Attorney Glbbs yesterday advised tho sheriff to tako Nellie Rob erts away from her mother and keep her away until after tho trial.
